There are Electric Cars available for drivers in most countries. The Tesla All-Electric Roadster has delivered 250 cars to American drivers at $109,000 apiece.

The Tesla Motors Model S 5-Door Sedan - $58,000, will carry 5 adults 300 miles on a single battery charge (that can be plugged-in to a wall socket) designed at the Space X Rocket Factory in Los Angeles. Tesla has applied for a $350 million loan from the department of energy.

The Chevy Volt will be available in 2010 and cost $40,000.

The BYD E6 "All Electric" is going to be available in China in 2009 for $20,000.
The Inexpensive Electric Cars we are all hoping for are far in the future as the batteries are the most single expensive component accounting for as much as 50% of the cars cost.
BYD has the best chance of mass-producing electric as it is the world's largest manufacturers of cellphone batteries and it's BYD Sedan, the F3 out sold the Volkswagen Jetta and Toyota Corolla in China.
