The holiday season is with us and we turn our minds to decorating our homes. Many of us only decorated the inside of our homes with a token wreath on the door.

Decorating you home is a tradition since the Middle Ages but the wreath on the door goes back from the early American colonies. Many cities and towns have outside Christmas lights. It is time to think about your Christmas outdoor decor.
Without having a lot of spare cash, you might want to copy the French who decorate outdoor trees and shrubs with metallic paper bows. These are easy to make and can be made and hung using the kids. New ones need to be made each year but it can be quality time with your children.
Another simple idea is to put a small signpost in your garden with a motto. For instance "Santa, a good child lives here". It may be bought but a Dad who's handy with a saw, hammer and paint brush could make one easily.
For those who have more cash, you may want to consider using lights in your garden. You can use strings of lights around your homes roof line to great effect and also to highlight a tree inside your garden. Make sure your lights are designed to be used outside and you use the correct plugs.
From the simple lights in your roof line, you can get more elaborate for your outdoor decor and purchase shapes such as sleighs, polar bears, religious figures - in fact the list is almost endless. It may be lit or unlit. With the advent of small air blowers you may also get blow up Santas and Snowmen.
As you can see, there are many ways to decorate your yard using outdoor Christmas decor. First decide on how elaborate you need to be and the do it now. Remember, whilst Christmas outdoor decor looks good, if you do too much it can look tacky.

Flowers are a decoration and a gift of nature. When flowers bloom they are a treat to the eye and often the aroma is sweet and filling the air surrounding the flower or flowers. by VideoQueenOther Member's Reactions
