1. Look for high Pageranking sites PR3+, you will need a lot of PR0 links to make an impact. Also ensure the Pagerank is real. Look at Google’s cache of the page, fake Pagerank will show an entirely different website.
2. Ensure your link is anchor texted with your keywords e.g. Virtual SEO consultant Though this is well know, it is seldom done effectively 3. Try to use different text combinations and keywords in your links. e.g. London dentist, dentist London, W1 dentist. 4. Ensure the link will be a permanent/static html links. Links from forum signatures for example will only last a few months. 5. Create links in text format only, do not use any form of graphics that might hinder the search engine bots from following the link. 6. Do not create links in framed pages. Google and other search engines do not like them. 7. If someone says they will put a link on their website for you, make sure the links are not in JavaScript – check the source code of the site. This can sometimes be hard to spot. Search engines will ignore this type of link. 8. The websites you are putting your link on must be live. It must also be cached by Google (Another devious method to hide your link is for the webmaster to use cloaking...when Googlebot comes sniffing it will be shown a different page with no links on). 9. Check Links do not go through a redirect script – your link may be on a page, but when you click on it you are taken to another site entirely.
11. Links cannot include a rel=nofollow tag - they must be DOFOLLOW to get the link juice. Though sites like MSN are reported to be ignoring this tag. Get hold of some good software to check this quickly – going through source code is very time consuming. 12. Avoid automated techniques – there are NO short cuts, well not many ;) 13. DO NOT use link exchange programs or web rings – Google knows them all and you will get penalised 14. Ensure the Page is not excluded by robots.txt
User-agent: * This entry tells the spiders to avoid any file located in the cgi-bin directory. If the web site owner places your link on a page inside this directory, it’s worthless. 15. Get links from different Class-C IP addresses – 200 from one IP is not great. Again use an ip checker on the website your intended links are going.
26. Do not outsource link building to third world countries just because the prices look cheap. Quality control is vital you may end up with a 1000 links from porn sites which could have a negative effect on your SERP rankings. 27. TEST the link actually works! Keep a log of all your hard work...go back and check things have been done properly. Also use quality backlink checking software to review your existing links. They should show you the Pagerank, IP address and dofollow tags. Think of all your links like an investment portfolio - a good link portfolio will add value to your website.

It was just before Christmas, 2008, when I first encountered the Snuggie commercial. I was feeding my newborn baby a bottle at the time and the ad for the fleece 'Blanket with Sleeves' struck me as a Saturday Night Live skit. I almost put the baby down in order to update my Facebook Status. I wanted to write something brilliant for my status, such as, "Let me get this straight. If I call in the next twenty minutes I'll get TWO Snuggies and TWO Booklights?!" I quickly dismissed that notion, rendering my Facebook status stale and my child fed. The holidays came and went, and I witnessed the Snuggie commercial dozens of times. I could not believe their audacity -- they showed men, women and children wearing Snuggies to sporting events and cookouts. I was convinced that no one would wear a Snuggie in public. But, what if someone did? It was early January, 2009, when I realized that someone might dare wear a Snuggie in public. The commercial struck me that the advertisers were almost daring the American Public to wear a Snuggie outdoors. The more I watched, the more I thought that many people would wear these in public, in an attempt to rebel against the status quo, or simply to get an easy laugh. I had to go all Boy Scout and prepare for the eventuality of a personal Snuggie sighting. I wanted to know what website I could submit a cell phone picture, if I did happen by a fleeced stranger. I performed a Google search for 'Snuggie Sightings' on January 10, 2009 and found zero matching results. If there was to be such a website, it was up to me to fill this glaring void. I registered the SnuggieSightings.com domain name that same day and was off to the races. I spent the next two or three days leaving comments in Snuggie-related blog posts, requesting photos of Snuggie wearers. I eventually installed a WordPress blog and the look of the site was in place by January 13, 2009. It was two weeks later, while I was sitting at my day job, that I received an email from a reporter with the USA Today. She wanted to interview me regarding the Snuggie craze. The next day, January 28, 2009, my Snuggie Sightings website was mentioned in this article in USA Today. That same morning, Robin Meade discussed my warm and cozy website on her Headline News Morning Express Show. Both the article and the mention on Headline News highlighted the "Snuggie Drinking Game"...a precursor to the Snuggie Pub Crawl phenomenon that has swept through the country in a matter of months. By January 29, 2009, the term "Snuggie Sightings" reached the top of Google Trends (meaning that it was the most searched term on Google for that time). Here's a Tweet from an astonished bystander who noticed this. My silly website had gone from concept and zero matching results to the top of Google Trends in less than three weeks. Through these experiences, I have learned that in the age of the Internet, print media can do more for you than SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I have learned that one minute of television time is worth thousands of dollars in free advertising. Above all, I have learned that when you discover a glaring void, you must fill it immediately...or someone else will. We live in a time and place where any online idea you have can be launched upon the masses in a matter of hours. Rather than looking for affirmation from friends, or talking your ideas to death, sit down and do it. Make history or be history. We are all without excuse, now that free online platforms such as WordPress, Blogger, and HubPages are readily available. We each have a plethora of blank canvases at our disposal, begging for our own identity to be stamped upon them. I have launched two new websites and written my first hub today. What are you going to create today? Whatever it is, make it your Mona Lisa.
