Advanced Tips to Make More Money With Domain Names

Sean R Mize

As more and more businesses establish their presence in the World Wide Web, using a good and catchy domain name has become much more important. A good domain name will not only increase your ranking in the search engine and promote the goods and services that you offer, it can actually bring in more visitors and potential clients to your website and significantly increase your business profits. But aside from simply promoting your business and getting prospective customers, you can also earn more money with good domain names. Here’s how:

1. You can buy domain names at a low price and sell them to interested individuals or companies with the help of some websites.

2. You can also buy expired domain names. Expired domain names actually cost more than new ones since most individuals or companies are willing to pay for an extended use of the website name in order to keep regular visitors to the website.

3. Include links to other websites. You can actually earn a commission whenever users get to enter these domain names by clicking the links on your website. Another technique to increase the number of visitors to your website is by redirecting visitors to a popular and known domain name to your own site even if they would not have selected it.

Basically, earning more profit online depends on the number of visitors you have in your domain. Using a good domain name that is easy to remember will surely help you attain this goal. More web traffic means increasing the sales that you can make and double the business gains that you can make.

Make Money with Domain Parking

Artem Belinskiy

My previous post about domain names, was very popular, as my statistics of visitings shows.

Another way to make money with domains is parking it with a domain parking company. Companies like Sedo offer you to park your domain for free and providing their advertisements, so when someone visits your domain, they will see advertisements placed by your sponsor. Sedo also lists your name up for sale if you want to (also free). The only thing you have to do is forward your domain name to a specific address you will get when you register with Sedo.

They provide all the ads you will display on your domain and no action on your behalf will need to be made except for forwarding your domain which is usually done at your registrar’s control panel. After setting up the domain forward the ads will be displayed automatically each time some one visits your domain.

If the visitor clicks on any of the advertisements, you will get paid a commission (which is always like five cents average per click depending on the domain’s name topic). So imagine having 10,000 visitors a day, and say 3,000 click on any ad.. You’ll get $150 just for doing nothing. Sounds great :) huh? Well.. It’s not so easy. In order to get thousands of visitors daily to your domain, you need to work hard on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and god knows what other things.

10k visits a day is a pretty decent number of visitors for a website. The point here is, if you get a pretty damn good name registered (good keyword) you should have little or no problem at all if you park your page with someone who pays for clicks; the most difficult task will be getting some traffic to the domain.

If you really want to make money with domain parking, you should register domains related to business. I’m talking about good names though. I personally own 6 business-related domains and have them parked with Sedo. In my experience with domain parking, business and banking domains pay around $0.35 - $1.20 per click! I have worked hard optimizing these domains; obviously those kinds of clicks are worth the hard work. I get around 400-500 visits per day on each domain and the click-through rate ranges from 18% to 25%, which is NOT bad at all.

Talking in dollars and cents, that’s around $65 - $100 per day. It took me around 9 months of SEO to get this kind of traffic, but again, much of its weight stands on the quality of your domain name.

Defensive Domain Names

You have worked hard on the Internet for a couple of years to develop a website. Your website has become recognized, and it has high traffic. Suddenly, you find that someone is siphoning off some of your traffic because they have registered a domain name that is very similar to your domain name and people are going to their website by mistake.

If you had planned ahead and registered names similar to your main domain name, you would have defended your main domain name so other people could not take advantage of it.

An example of this is the main website name of www.boomer-ezine.com. A defensive domain name for this is www.boomerezine.com.

Other considerations of this concept are to purchase the domain extensions that can apply to your main site. If the main site is www.boomer-ezine.com, you should consider purchasing the .biz, .org, .info, etc. to protect the main name.

Once you have registered these names, why not use them to direct traffic to your main site and to create links that point to your main sites. We are all aware that the number of links that point to your website are a factor that the search engines use for rating your website.

There are some web hosts that offer unlimited domain name hosting. You can very easily set up one page websites for the defensive name with a message to point the reader to your main site. Here is an example of the message for boomerezine.com:

PERHAPS YOU ARRIVED HERE LOOKING FOR BOOMER-eZine.COM.
IF YOUR BROWSER DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GO TO BOOMER-eZine.COM IN FIVE SECONDS, PLEASE CLICK HERE.
THANKS!
The PLEASE CLICK HERE link in the message is a link to boomer-ezine.com.

On this redirect page, place links to all of your other websites to create those important links that the search engines love.

In summary, plan ahead on your domain names and purchase the domain names that are close to the main domain name that you are going to use. This will protect your main site in the future when it becomes very popular.

Domain Transfers without Tears

Author Name: Fred Bunzl

One of the most common errors I come across week after week concerns domain transfers. That is when a request is made to transfer a domain name from one registrar to another.

Many domain owners wait until just a few days before their domain expires before requesting transfer, because they mistakenly think the remaining time on their domain name will be lost if they transfer earlier.

The result is that the transfer often fails because the procedure can take a few days to complete. And during that time the domain expires. The 'losing' registrar will then refuse the transfer altogether because of the universal rule that expired domains can't be transferred.

I guess one reason domain owners are badly informed about this is because many registrars consider it's not in their interests to tell their customers about this. After all, the more failed transfers there are,
the more the registrar can rake in for another year's fees. As a domain reseller, I think that's a short-sighted attitude because it makes customers only more determined to leave your service as soon as possible!

What you need to remember is this....

When you transfer your domain name, one year's validity is added to the domain's EXISTING expiry date. So no time is ever lost when you transfer your domain!

For example if your domain still has 6 months to go before expiry and you transfer it now, it will have 18 months after the transfer completes.

So the moral is ...

If you've decided to
transfer
your domain name to another registrar, don't wait until renewal time comes around. Transfer it now.

The only exception is if you recently registered or renewed your domain name. You will then have to wait for 60 days before requesting a transfer. The reason is that domain registrars have a common rule against this. Many were ripped off in the past by fraudsters who didn't pay their credit card bills and the registrars then had nothing in hand, neither cash nor the domain name.
