Radar Detectors: How to Forget About Speeding Tickets

Author: Alex Baumm

Every year, there are thousands of drivers who get to trouble because of numerous over speeding tickets they get when driving in the major roads and highways. For quite some time, people have been envisioning traffic police as law enforcers who are in hiding, waiting to possible speeding violators in the highway.

Through the years, some car owners have been heavily relying on the usefulness of devices called radar detectors. If you are a car owner and driver who is aiming to reduce or totally eliminate accumulation of over speeding ticket on the highways, there is definitely a need to invest in a radar detector.

What is a radar detector? To simplify the definition, a radar detector is radio transmission device that alarms a driver traffic police are around the area or are already chasing him. This way, the driver would always be tipped if there is a nearby officer, eliminating the incurrence of ticketing for over speeding.

The popularity of the radar detector has always been on the rise especially when several initial users testified for the advantages of using the devices.

There has been speculation that car insurance firms are working closely with the traffic police to gain favors. Though reports have not been compared, there are talks that insurance firms are providing the traffic police free radar guns, which are able to intercept and provide signals to radar detectors.

In case you have overlooked the situation and the possible gains insurers would have, be aware that when drivers accumulate more speed driving violations, they make auto insurance policies more expensive for them. Thus, in the end, the car insurance companies get to benefit the most from this setup.

There are inevitably doubts over the usefulness and advantages of the radar detector. However, analysts assure consumers and drivers that the car accessory and device is still very much useful in the general strategy to help improve driving discipline and possibly make the driver forget all about over speeding tickets.

However, here are several tips on how a radar detector is used as an advantageous tool to eliminate incurring of over speeding tickets.

1. There is a strategy to make radar detector be negligible to any of the police's radar gun or detector. That is to put the radar detector high on the car's windshield. Remember that the higher the radar detector is placed in your car, the more its ability becomes to escape or sniff out police signals.

2. A radar detector will always make corresponding sounds for different radar threats. It would be more advisable if you would learn and familiarize your self with those sounds so that the next time you encounter any detection from the traffic police, you would easily take heed and tip from the sound of the radar detector.

3. Always make sure to use your radar detector. Do not practice the idea to use the device only on long trips or on vacation travels.

4. Do not slow down when the detector alarms or indicates detection from a traffic police's radar gun. Slowing down would make the brake lights turn on and blink and would further catch the attention of the police. This will give them the perception and impression that you are admitting your guilt to over speeding. Drive as if nothing happened.

Used Car Dealers: How to Win a Fight with the Dealership

Author: Alex Baumm

If you are planning to buy a vehicle but have insufficient budget, it would be wise if you would settle to buy a used auto.

For quite some time, many buyers of such cars could attest that if done properly and if the choice of used vehicle is made wisely, used car purchase would not just be practical, but also highly economical and wise. However, you also have to make sure you would not be conned by the used car dealer.

The ability to outsmart a scheming and dishonest used car dealer would be your greatest challenge when you settle to buy a used auto. Issues and setbacks about the quality and overall condition of the used vehicle you are buying would be lessened if not totally eliminated just by making sure you are getting the best deals from the used car dealer.

As you all know, used car dealers always aim to outwit you. They would do anything to make a used auto look spectacular and attractive to you. In the process, a dealer would always set a goal to set a high price for the car purchase, something you would definitely want to avoid.

Here are some useful tips that would definitely help you win a fight with the used car dealer.

1. Do not get easily motivated by the strong descriptions used by the agents of the used car dealer. Always remember that such agents are trained to become savvy and persuasive salespersons.

They would always make use of good and convincing adjectives like racy, sporty, trendy, fast, powerful and others, just to make their point and finally convince you to purchase a specific used auto model. Most of the time, the good and attractive descriptions do not appropriately fit the used vehicle.

2. Do a little background check about the car model you are eyeing to buy. You can secure from the used car dealer the history and ownership record of the old car.

If you would be wise enough, you can properly analyze the repair and maintenance history of the car. At the same time, make sure the ownership documents and titles are clear so that ownership would be fully transferred to you upon car purchase.

3. Inspect the used auto properly and thoroughly. If you can bring along with you an expert or a well competent mechanic, the better. Remember that a used car dealer would not openly admit and reveal hidden damages and discouraging records and history.

You would have to unveil and find those facts yourself. And you could easily do that simple check through a mechanic. He should be able to know and tell you an estimate about how many times the used auto has already been serviced in its lifetime.

4. Avoid 'recall' and 'lemon' used vehicles. Recalled used autos had been pulled out by the manufacturer or distributor due to technical and mechanical issues. A lemon car has problems and damages that could never ever be remedied or fixed.

5. Finally, test-drive the car. If it feels good to ride and drive it, the used auto surely would be useful to you. Otherwise, find another model or moreover, find a better and more trusted used car dealer.

How To Drive Safely In The City

Author: John Myre

To Jack, right-turn-on-red was the greatest thing since sliced bread. He was a person on the go, a man in a hurry.

To him every city intersection was just one more obstacle standing between him and his next appointment. Right-turn-on-red was his license to never stand still. Moving, moving, keep that car moving.

Bad habits breed bad results, and right-turn-on-red soon progressed to 'rolling stop through red' and 'ignore NO-right-turn-on-red warnings.' He finally came to his senses the day he was broadsided by a city bus and spent several weeks stuck in his hospital bed.

City driving is filled with hassles and delays, but these minor inconveniences aren't going to be avoided through reckless or rude behavior. The best advice is to maintain a calm and patient attitude.

Surviving Intersections

About 50 percent of all city driving collisions occur at intersections, usually because a driver failed to yield the right-of-way.

A recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study reports that red-light runners are responsible for an estimated 170,000 injuries every year, about 900 of which are fatal.

Worse, the number of deaths related to red light running is rising! To keep intersections safe, remember these tips:

* The vehicle on the left always yields to the vehicle on the right.

* Rolling stops can be a dangerous habit. You can miss spotting a vehicle and cause a collision.

* As you approach a 'stale green light' cover the brake with your foot and be prepared to stop. Indications of a stale light include: traffic flowing smoothly, considerable cross-traffic, blinking pedestrian signals, and people standing on the corner.

* When a red light turns green, check to see that traffic has stopped on the intersecting street. Look left, then right, then scan left before you proceed. You invite disaster if you don't check for oncoming vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

* Turning right on a red light is allowed only when it is legal, your vehicle has come to a complete stop, traffic is clear, and pedestrians are clear of the crosswalk. Always take the few extra moments to look for a no-turn-on-red sign.

* When you encounter a yellow light, always stop if it is safe to do so. The purpose of a yellow light is to allow you time to clear an intersection you have already entered, not one you are approaching.

Roadside Distractions

* A lack of consideration can cause trouble. Demanding the right of way can lead to a confrontation that benefits no one.

* Keep your eyes moving for potential problems such as children playing, cyclists, pets, and cars backing from driveways. Look into your rear view mirror often.

* Establish a high visual horizon. You should be able to see one block ahead of you.

* Blind spots are everywhere. If you can't see beyond an object, slow down or change lanes to improve your vision.

* Don't tailgate. Maintain a three second following distance.

* When waiting to make a left turn, point your wheels straight ahead. If you are hit from behind with your wheels turned to the left, you would be forced into traffic.

* Whenever possible, avoid getting boxed in. Speed up or slow down as required.

* Don't fiddle with the radio or other nonessential equipment in heavy traffic.

* If a left turn is risky because of heavy traffic or poor vision, make a right turn and use an alternate route.

Backing Up

* Always check behind your car. Pedestrians and small children can be hidden from your view.

* Use your outside mirrors to help your vision.

* Do not back into busy streets, highways and pedestrian crosswalks.

* Keep your foot firmly on the brake before shifting into reverse.

* Back slowly. Glance over each shoulder out the windows.
