ET's Thea Andrews talked to George Takei about William Shatner's extended rant attacking former co-star George Takei. Takei tells her that Shatner, in fact, was invited but never responded. He also challenges Shatner to join them in the campaign against Proposition 8.
"But Billl's ranting and raving is just silliness. What's really important to us right now is Proposition 8, this very discriminatory law that's trying to take away our beautiful marriage. And I have another invitation for Bill, I invite him to join us in voting no and campaigning no on Proposition 8. We'll see how he responds to that!...We welcome him to join us in defeating Proposition 8. No on Proposition 8." Takei also responds to statements by Shatner that he waited to come out till he was 70: Says Takei: "I had been out for decades. Bill just didn't know it, I suppose. And the only thing I had not done was talk to the press about it. But I've been active in gay issues, gay organizations. I was even a member of a gay running club. That's where I met Brad. The only thing I hadn't done was talk to the press, and I guess the press defines what is coming out." Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP (and I apologize that it's an 'autoplay' clip - if anybody comes across a YouTube clip that's not autoplay, please let me know and I'll substitute it)...
A few days ago one of my readers advised me to visit a particular website and get the truth about what is really happening in the world and, more specifically, the campaigns. The site is called Worldnet Daily.com . I urge you to visit this site, if you haven't already done so. It is the ultimate political grocery store tabloid, with headlines like "Obama funded foreign thug who promised Islamic state" or "Gadhafi: Obama a Muslim, studied in Islamic schools" and "Test shows Ayers penned Obama's 'Dreams'." Gadhafi? Since when did he become lucid enough to be believed. A few years ago, the people who would read and believe this site were calling for his head. Interestingly enough, this tabloid was started by a guy named "Farah." Could it be...? No, let's not go there. Worldnet Daily boasts such "unbiased" columnists as Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Neal Boortz, Chuck Norris, Phyllis Schafly, and Dr. Laura Schlesinger. Chuck Norris? A columnist? You decide. This group of "writers" is a total reflection of what is wrong with our country. They make up stories, then pass them off as truth in order to stir up their loyal followers who believe anything they write or say. They are the epitome of the mean spirited, trash talking, right wing demagogues, who preach hate and division in an effort to further the far right agenda. This is the very thing Gen. Colin Powell questioned yesterday in his interviews with NBC. It is just a matter of time before Michelle "McCarthy" Bachman, whom Powell pointed out yesterday, becomes a regular. I would recommend this site for some light reading and fun, if you can keep your head about you. If you are prone to violence or depression, stay away. It could take you in either direction very quickly. Read it with a light heart, and hope and pray that this kind of gutter "journalism" fades quietly way. If it doesn't and continues to mutate, this country is in for some very, very difficult times.
Norman Corwin's dramatization of famous Lincoln-Douglas debates will air on public and satellite radio prior to election day, remaining available for download for the entire week.
Join L.A. Theatre Works for a pre-election day broadcast of a rare and timely revival of "The Rivalry" by Norman Corwin starring David Strathairn and Paul Giamatti. The LATW-recorded production is set to air on public radio stations around the country and on XM Satellite radio Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 2 . (Check local listings for air times.) Beginning at 12 am PDT on November 2, "The Rivalry" will be available for download for one week at http://www.scpr.org/programs/latw . David Strathairn and Paul Giamatti star as Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, rivals for the U.S. Senate - one a rising Illinois legislator and abolitionist candidate of the newly formed Republican party, the other the Democratic incumbent and champion of states' rights. The Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858 tackled the day's most passionate issue: slavery. The series of seven debates that took place in seven Congressional districts were conducted in a fever of partisanship as the nation listened. Brass bands played, and the press vilified or glorified the opponents, depending on which side they took. Although Douglas was re-elected Senator from Illinois, the debates brought Lincoln into the national consciousness and helped send him on to the presidency. The program also stars Lily Rabe as Adele Douglas, the young wife of Senator Douglas through whose lens we witness the proceedings; James Gleason; and Shannon Cochran. Eric Simonson, 2006 Academy Award-winner for his documentary The Golden Age of Norman Corwin, directs. The broadcast will be followed by an interview with Paul Giamatti and David Strathairn.
LATW's radio theater series, The Play's The Thing, airs weekly on 89.3 FM KPCC in Southern California; 89.7 WGBH in Boston; 91.5 FM WBEZ in Chicago; 94.9 KUOW in Seattle; 93.5 FM KRTS "Marfa Public Radio" in Texas; 90.5 FM KUT in Austin;88.9 FM KUNM in Albuquerque; 94.1 KPFA in Northern California; 91.1 FM KRCB in Sonoma County; 89.1 KUOR in Redlands; as well as on many other public radio stations nationwide and XM Satellite Radio. Dancer falls ill Julianne Hough (inset) is feeling fine after being hospitalized with stomach trouble following her "Dancing With the Stars" performance. "With stomach problems, you never know what's going on," Hough wrote in a FanCast posting. "It could've been appendicitis. It turned out just to be a bad stomach. As my mom said, better safe than sorry." The 20-year-old professional dancer, who's partnered with "Hannah Montana" actor Cody Linley on the popular ABC dancing competition, went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center following the live results show Tuesday. Man sues Oprah A Louisiana man has filed a lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey, claiming she and an attorney made false statements that led the FBI to arrest him on charges that he tried to extort the talk-show host. Keifer Bonvillain, who had the charges dismissed, seeks damages of $180 million from Winfrey, her attorney, and the FBI. Bonvillain was arrested in December 2006 after he allegedly recorded telephone conversations with an employee of Winfrey's production company and told a company associate he wanted to publish a book based on the recordings. Shatner lashes out In a video posted on his website yesterday, William Shatner lashed out at old "Star Trek" costar George Takei for not inviting him to his wedding. "The whole thing makes me feel badly," the 77-year-old Shatner said in the video. "Poor man. There is such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea." Takei and Brad Alman, who tied the knot Sept. 15, had previously stated that Shatner was invited to their wedding but he never responded. (AP)

![]() It's finally here. After enduring an extra off day in the name of House, the 2008 World Series is kicking off tonight in Tampa Bay with Scott Kazmir and Cole Hamels taking the mound at some vague time after 8 PM EST. Kazmir was the winner in the All-Star Game this year and as a result, he'll be pitching at home tonight. As Game 1 matchups go, this game is probably a lot more important for Philadelphia. Hamels is their ace and the only Philadelphia starter who's clearly better than his mound opponent. Losing Game 1 is never the end of any series for any team, but the Phillies especially need to get off on the right foot on the road tonight. After the jump, you can join me and my fellow FanHousers around eight as we get ready for the first game of this year's Fall Classic.
