When it comes to designing and developing a site or a blog, most website and blog owners seem to grasp the concept pretty quick and end up doing a great job over time. What most people find challenging, specially money making webmasters who are interested in making money from their site, blog, or content sharing sites, is the promotion part.

It is no rocket science that more people find your site or page, more money you make. Now the question is, how in the world all the people will find your page out of hundreds of millions of pages out there. There are actually few ways of getting and driving traffic to your site. One is PPC which is expensive as you pay per click and depending on the niche you are targeting, it can actually be very costly way of advertising. Other is though SEO (search engine optimization) or SEM (search engine marketing). There are few other ways of driving the desired traffic but on this article, lets focus on Link Building which is part of off-page SEO method of site promotion.

If we consider the purpose of link building for a site, we know that more backlink a site has, better it ranks on search engines. So let’s focus on getting those backlinks to your site in a costless method. All you need to do is to set some time aside per day or per week and continue building those backlinks.

  1. Directory Submission: Directory submission has been a proven method of effective link building method of few years now. What you need to do is to find some link directories that accept free submissions and submit your site there. All the link directories are organized by categories so you need to submit under the category that best suits your site and niche. You can search Google with the terms “Free Link Directory”, “Free Directory Add URL”, “Free Link Directory” and various other search terms.
  2. Article Submission: There are thousands of article directories out there that are based on user generated and submitted content. You can write an article related to the topic of your site and submit to those article directories with your anchor text link in the resource box which will give you backlinks.
  3. Social Bookmarking: How many social bookmarking sites out there as of this date is anyone’s guess but the point is that, you can bookmark your site or story pages on these social bookmarking sites for backlinks very easily.
  4. RSS Submission: If you have a blog or site with RSS Feed setup, then there are lots of RSS engines and ping sites where you can submit your feed for backlinks.
  5. Social Media Pages: There are lot of social media sites, Squidoo and HubPages for example, that accept user generated content. You can publish your own article on those sites and use the anchor text to link to your main site.

Idea is to stay motivated as there is no overnight result that you will be getting. SEO is a lengthy process and sometimes it might take months before you see some measurable results but if you stay focused and dedicated your online success is only a matter of time.

Social Bookmarking – Way to Increase Backlinks and Traffic to Your Site

Now that we all are so familiar with social bookmarking and have been using bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon, etc., we are mostly enjoying th benefit that these social sites provide. However, did we ever stop to think how these social bookmarking sites came to existence in the first place? People who are new to the internet and using online public bookmarks to begin with may not know how bookmarks were done in the past and what kind of drawback old fashioned bookmarks presented.

Well, there isn’t much of a history out there actually. At least nothing like a fairy tale that would be told here. Since the inception of the internet, web visitors were marking their bookmarks under favorite on the tool bar menu. At the beginning, Netscape was known as internet as going online means using Netscape to browse the net. There was no other browser in existence at that time so Netscape didn’t have any competitor.

Good thing didn’t last for Netscape for long! Soon, they had rival who is Internet Explorer developed by Microsoft made a very smart move to capture the browser market by integrating Internet Explorer within the Windows operating systems. Slowly people started getting used to IE and Microsoft took the opportunity to keep improving their browser to offer positive user experience. Even though IE was there, at the beginning, people would still use IE for browsing and then use Netscape and a search Engine as there was no other. Then Google came into existence swiping the entire web visitors from Netscape’s ground toward them.

There has been many remissions with the browsers since then and couple of other browsers became popular and somewhat popular but bookmarking were still done at old fashioned way. Since these bookmarks are on local computer, there is no way for someone to visit those bookmarks form a separate computer, not to mention sharing them with anyone.

Realizing this potential, developers came up with social bookmarking sites where people are able to organize their bookmarks online and make them public. They now can share these bookmarks with friends and family as well which was a dream come true in the past.

Since these bookmarking sites offer public bookmarks, it is also possible to submit your site and get a backlinks form there. Either you can submit your own bookmarks if you are interested in link building or you can outsource a link building service for your bookmarking needs which will be ideal if you need loot of backlinks.
