In the pursuit of improved facial balance and shape, the use of solid facial implants is a simple and proven method. While there are facial implants made from different materials that can be used, the use of solid silicone (rubber) chin, cheek, nose and jaw implants are by far the most commonly used. They are soft, flexible, and slide easily into place on top of facial bones. These type of facial implants are placed deep to the skin down at the bone level. Since they are solid, not gel-filled, there is no risk of implant leakage or breaking. All facial implants can be inserted through very discrete incisions that often leave no visible scars on the face. While any implant (foreign-body) has some risk of infection, facial implants infection is quite uncommon.

Enhancing the chin with an implant is the most commonly performed facial implant procedure. With a small incision under the chin, a chin implant can be easily put into place, bringing the chin forward so that it is in balance to the nose and lips. Unlike the old style 'button' chin implant, there are many different styles of chin implants today. From curved styles to a more box shape, to those chin implants with a central dimple, there are many options to custom tailor a chin implant to fit most patient's faces. Usually the chin implant is sutured into place, a metal screw can be driven through the implant to the bone. This screw fixation method can eliminate one of the very few complications of chin implants, that of shifting or changing position after surgery causing chin asymmetry. Chin implants are often used in combination with nose surgery, liposuction of the neck, or face tightening procedures of the jowls and neckline.

Cheek implants also have a variety of styles, allowing fullness to be gained over the prominence of the cheekbone, filling out the hollow underneath the cheekbone, or allowing more fullness to be gained up to the side of the nose. By going through the mouth under the upper lip, there is no facial scarring. Building up flat cheeks, camouflaging a prominent nose, or adding fullness to the midface in HIV disease can be done with cheek implants. Securing the cheek implant into place is of particular importance as they are the most prone of any facial implant to moving out of place after surgery.

Jawline implants are relatively new. Making a man's face more square and amsculine is done with jaw angle implants and is also used when there is facial asymmetry caused by the jaw developing differently between the two sides of the face. Swelling and recovery after jaw angle implant placement is greater than with chin and cheek implants as the big chewing muscles must be lifted up to put the jaw angle implant in place. This causes some soreness in opening the mouth for several weeks after surgery.

In some cases, the use of different implants in the same patient, such as a chin and jaw angle implants in a male, can provide dramatic changes in one's facial appearance. Facial implants are a powerful tool, that is simple and usually uncomplicated, to achieve better facial balance and harmony.

While opting for a cheap contact lenses, a prudent purchaser has to be aware of certain rules to get the best deal. The first and the foremost is the case of safety. Even though cheap is good, compromise on quality should not be made. Even if cheap contact lenses are purchased, the vision should be checked regularly by a professional and the prescription should be changed whenever necessary.

Next step is to consider the wearing pattern. Generally, the longer period the lenses are worn, the cheaper they would be. For example, contact lenses worn through out the day and night for 30 days continuously are liable to be cheaper over the period than those that are disposed off everyday. While calculating the relative cost of the different types of lenses, the cost of lens solution, which is needed for the reusable lenses, should also be added.

Even branded items come in excellent cheap deals. Some reputed companies offer good deals for customers who opt to buy cheap contact lenses online or in bulk. They are available at discount rates through third party providers also.

Contact lens prices are generally cheaper through Internet than those offered by opticians. The product range is wide and the lenses are available round the clock, which is an added advantage.

There are two reasons for retailers selling cheap contact lenses. One is, they maintain larger stock of lenses and therefore deliver lenses more quickly than any other retail outlet. The second reason is that Internet retailers have lower premises and other overhead costs and sell mainly lenses unlike opticians who sell spectacles also.

Therefore the customer saves a great deal of money by buying cheap contact lenses on the Internet than buying from a traditional optician. The customer while opting to buy contact lenses should consider the delivery fee before ordering for the contact lenses. Even if the contact lenses are purchased at a cheap rate through the Internet, it is better to maintain a regular contact with the optician since the capacity of the eye is subject to constant change. Online purchase of cheap contact lenses should be pursued continuously because we may not get the product in time. Contact lenses are generally a periodic purchase and therefore minimizing the cost becomes imminent.

While looking for cheap contact lenses, the customer should be careful in choosing the material of the lenses. Silicon allows oxygen to pass through but has trouble with increased dry eye. Silicon hydro gels rectify this problem. Another method of lowering the cost of contact lenses is to buy bulk production. Rebates and specials have a large effect on price. Some retailers offer cheap contact lenses when they are purchased with an eye test or some others offer rebates to first time customers.

So, a person who is well informed of all the facts gets a fair deal while purchasing cheap contact lenses.

Soft contact lenses are thin, dome shaped discs made of complex plastic material positioned on the cornea to focus images on the retina. Contact lenses are a safe, convenient, comfortable and affordable alternative to spectacles. There are basically two types of lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP) and soft lenses.

RGP lenses are semi- rigid lenses made from a plastic that allows oxygen through the eye and are the best, clinically. They are also easy to take care of, durable and give a clear vision. They are useful to all types of vision correction like astigmation, bifocals, and post surgery and cosmetic for all groups of age.

Soft lenses: Soft lenses made from water absorbing plastics, are flexible and membrane like for maximum comfort. Since they do not displace easily from the eyes, they are ideal for sports.

Silicon based soft lenses allow maximum oxygen to the cornea and therefore they can be safely worn for a month continuously. Soft lenses can correct all types of refractive errors. They are available for Toric (to correct astigmation), bifocal, weekly disposable, extended wear and cosmetic purposes.

Toric lenses: Toric lenses are made from the same material as regular contact lenses, the difference being in the design of the lenses. Toric lenses have two powers of curvatures at different angles, one for astigmation and the other for myopia or hyperopia. Toric contact lenses have a mechanism to keep the lens stable on the eyes even while blinking. The cost of the Toric lenses is more than the spherical lenses and fitting expenses are also more.

Disposable lenses are replaced every two weeks or sooner and are designed to be worn and then replaced with a new pair of lenses. Disposable contact lenses are favored because of their health and convenience benefits.

Daily disposables or one-day disposables are contact lenses that are discarded every night and replaced in the morning with a new pair. This option is the best because there is no lens cleaning and since there are no lens deposit build up there are no eye problems.

Extended wear lenses are approved to be worn without removal up to seven days .A "super permeable" lens material “silicone hydro gel" is approved up to 30 days of wear without removal. This is also known as continuous wear.

It is important to follow certain guidelines for safe handling of soft contact lenses:

Moisturizing soaps are not good for contact lenses and the hands should be dry before handling them.

One lens should be removed and cleaned with the recommended solution and the lens should be rubbed in the palm of the hand with a few drops of solution and the process should be repeated for the second lens.

Rinsing is an important step to remove the loosened debris.
Place the lenses in the lens holder filled with fresh water solution because disinfecting kills microorganisms in the lenses.

Avoid tap water on the contact lenses and accessories because it may cause serious eye infections.

Never touch the solution bottle tips as it can become contaminated.

Color contact lenses can be used to change the color of the eye anytime, even one in the morning and another in the evening. Contact lenses are more useful if the color of the eye has to be strengthened, that is, green colored eye can be made greener with a contact lens. The main advantage of color contact lenses is that even people without visual problems can use colored contact lenses.

There are four types of colored contact lenses: opaque color tint, visibility tint, enhancement tint and light filtering tint. Color contact lenses come with either visual correction (called" Plano" lenses) without visual correction.

Opaque color tints are also called as costume or theatrical lenses. These lenses are used in movies for special eye effects.

Visibility tint: A visibility tint is usually a light blue or green tint added to the contact lens. This color is exclusively used to help to see them better if dropped on the floor, during insertion and removal. Since they are very light, they do not affect the original color of the eyes.

Enhancement tint: As the name implies, enhancement tint is used to enhance the existing color of the eye. It is used by people who want to make the color of their eyes more intense. It is a solid translucent tint that is a bit darker than visibility tint.

Color tints: Color tints are usually made of patterns of solid colors and come in a wide range of colors like hazel, violet, blue, green and gray. They dramatically change the color of the eye and are deeper, opaque tints.

Color contact lenses are manufactured to look as natural as possible, some are available with a series of tiny colored dots on the lens and the center of the lenses are clear for visibility. A more recent development is the Light filtering tints designed for sports use since they enhance certain colors like yellow for tennis balls. Thus the ball stands out against the background making it easier to target. Light filtering contact lenses are also exclusively manufactured for golfers to distinguish between the various greens on a golf course. Other contact lenses for trap shoolers, skiers and other sports enthusiasts and even for spectators are also available.

There are certain disadvantages of color contacts. During blinking, the colored portion may slide over the pupil. To accommodate varying light conditions, the size of the pupil changes and therefore at times the pupil may be larger than the center of the lenses. At such times, the vision may be slightly affected.

Color contact lenses can be worn on a disposable basis, daily wear basis or an extended week basis. Colored contact lenses can be worn up to one week continuously before being removed and cleaned. After removal the lens must be cleaned, rinsed and disinfected well. They should be cleaned in solutions approved by the FDA and manufactured by reputable companies-never compromise on quality, never leave the lenses exposed to dust or air. While the lenses are in use a lubricating solution can be used, if recommended, to give comfort.

Colored contact lenses have all the advantages of an ordinary lens and are available both as around the clock lenses and monthly lenses. Most of the color contact lenses have inbuilt ultraviolet radiation protection that protects eyes against the sun's injurious rays. Ultraviolet blocker is provided in a clear form and does not disturb the vision.

Any persistent problem of the eye should be consulted with an eye doctor.

A corrective, cosmetic or therapeutic lens placed in the cornea of the eye is called a contact lens. It is a thin, transparent, plastic disc. Contact lens serves the purpose of conventional glasses but it is lightweight and almost invisible. In fact, some commercial lenses are tinted, generally to light blue color, to make them more visible while immersed in solution.

Nearly two percent of the people through out the world use contact lenses. There are many reasons for people opting for contact lenses. Majority of the people choose contact lenses for enhancing their appearance and making it more attractive. Also, contact lenses are less prone to wet weather, provide a wider vision field, do not steam up and are more suited for many sporting activities. In addition to this, certain ophthalmologic conditions can be accurately corrected with contact lenses.

Contact lenses are in varied designs.

Spherical contact lenses are typically round in design and have the ability to correct myopia (near sightedness) or hyperopia (far sightedness)

Bifocal: These lenses correct presbyopia- an age related defect of the eye and have different near and far vision zones.

Orthokeratology lenses reshape the cornea during sleep thus avoiding daytime wear of the lens.

Toric contact lenses correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmation.

Many of these lenses come in colors that enhance the natural color of the eye. To choose the correct contact lenses, in the first place, it is necessary to find out the purpose for which they are worn. Secondly, the lenses must be of correct diameter and curvature to fit the eye exactly and finally if the eyes tend to be dry, appropriate lenses should be chosen. There are many types of contact lenses like hard contact lenses, soft contact lenses, and rigid gas permeable and disposables and it is essential to find out the kind that suits a person. "Plungers" are devices for removing contact lenses. They are used to touch and directly remove a lens from the eye.

To find the perfect lenses for a person, only a trial and error method can be adopted because different people react differently to lens material and solutions. Also, the power, curvature and diameter of the lenses can be finalized only after wearing the lenses, especially for bifocal or Toric contact lenses.

Before buying contact lenses, it should be verified whether the prescription is the current one with a one-year renewal. A contact lens prescription should contain the patient’s name, examination date, power, diameter of the prescribed contact lenses, issue date and expiry date of prescription.

Contact lenses are closer to natural sight than glasses, move with the eye and correct the refractive error to give a more natural field of vision. They can be worn all day and need not be worn on and taken off. Contact lenses stick to the layers of tear fluid and stay in place, the eye lid pressure holds them in place, any impurities sticking to the lens are flushed away by the lubrication in the cornea when the eye blinks.

Contact lenses require some basical care like washing the hands thoroughly with mild soap, rinsing and drying them before handling the lenses so that the hands are free of pollutants. Always use fingertips to handle the lenses. Clean the lenses immediately after removing and the lenses should always be kept in disinfecting solution when not in use and lenses with bacterial or fungal growth should never be worn. Contact lenses provide flexibility and convenience.
