Russell T. Davies discusses Torchwood’s future in the latest issue of Torchwood Magazine.

Torchwood creator Russell T Davies has the future of the hit Doctor Who spin-off all planned out, he has told the new issue of Torchwood Magazine.

“I could write you scene one of series four right now”, says Davies in a revealing interview with Torchwood Magazine. “I know exactly how to pick it up. I’ve got a shape in mind, and I’ve got stories. I know where you’d find Gwen and Rhys, and their baby, and Jack, and I know how you’d go forward with a new form of Torchwood.”

The news will come as a tonic to fans of the show, which enjoyed runaway success in the ratings when the latest series Children of Earth screened over five nights in July this year. The dramatic finale and the death of much-loved team member Ianto Jones had fans fearing the worst for the future of the show, but Davies’ positive comments will re-ignite hopes that Torchwood will once again return to television screens.

Davies is also confident of writing another compelling series of Torchwood, regardless of the format the BBC decides to choose for the show.

“If the BBC asked for another 13 one-part stories, that’s what we’d do”, Davies goes on to explain to Torchwood Magazine. “I’m ready for anything, but I think it works well as one continuous story. But if the BBC decide they want 13 one-offs, I’ll suddenly decide that¹s the best format in the world!”

The prolific writer, widely credited with sparking the recent revival of parent show Doctor Who, goes on to talk candidly about the origins of Torchwood, and why he thinks the timing was all important for the success of the show.

“It’s been a very intelligent decision to make hay while the sun shines”, he says. “Look at the recession that’s sweeping in now. If I’d tried to get Torchwood off the ground now, they would say there’s no money for it. So while we had one very successful show, we made a strategic decision to push our advantage. Julie [Gardner, then Head of Drama at BBC Wales] passionately wanted a big, strong Welsh drama department but one show is not a drama department, You¹ve got to have more, so we did it while those doors were open to us.”

After Davies’ incredible successes on British shores, where he has also penned the acclaimed drama serials Queer as Folk and The Second Coming, the writer is looking forward to his next challenge across the Atlantic.

Davies tells Torchwood Magazine he believes his trade is taken much more seriously in the USA than it is at home in the UK:

“The attitudes towards drama there are very different, and their outlook is more professional in terms of how they approach the job. I heard this brilliant quote from [acclaimed British screenwriter] Frank Cottrell Boyce recently, where he said that British writers are essentially amateur and they want to go home or go to the pub, but in America they can’t wait to go in to the office.”

Russell T Davies interview appears in Torchwood Magazine Issue #17, due out on 20th August.

Outside Godric’s home, Bill coldly dismisses Lorena: “You are dead to me.” Bloody tears streaking her cheeks, she dashes off into the night. Behind Bill, the house violently explodes. Bill rushes inside searching for Sookie amongst the devastation – bodies plaster the walls- he finds her lying beneath Eric who shielded her from the blast. She’s stunned but otherwise unharmed. Bill gives chase after two terrified Soldiers Of The Sun who flee; he rips one from the speeding minivan, throwing him to the ground and tears into his throat.

Inside Isabel helps the injured. Sookie rolls Eric off and calls out to Jason who stands and gives her thumbs up. Eric moans on the ground; body pierced by sliver shrapnel. He asks Sookie to suck it out: “I’m dying.” She grudgingly uses her lips to extract the bloody pieces as Eric smiles; satisfied.

Bill unlatches from the Fellowship member and releases him.

Jason finds all that’s left of Luke: a severed hand honesty ring still attached. Isabel reports that Stan is among the dead. Bill finds Sookie still sucking sliver from Eric’s chest. Bill instantly realizes Eric’s deception; he’s duped Sookie into drinking his blood. They are now connected; he’ll be able to sense he emotions. Sookie’s indignant.

Back at the Hotel Carmilla, Sookie’s still burning over Eric’s manipulation. Eric will always be able to locate her. Bill informs her that’s not the worst of things: she may become sexually attracted to Eric; another effect of the blood.

In Bon Temps at Bill’s house, Jessica is delighted when Hoyt invites her to meet his mother: “Nobody ever wants me to meet anybody.” With dawn about to break Jessica retires to her resting place as Hoyt sweetly croons an impromptu melody.

The morning finds a bruised Tara and Eggs at Sookie’s breakfast table. Both are blank on the night’s happenings. Maryann offers a high minded explanation: “Maybe you rose to a higher state of consciousness,” encouraging their black outs.

In a room at the Hotel Carmilla, Sookie and Jason have a heart to heart; they make amends realizing they are the only family they have and that they need to stick together. They turn on the television and catch the tail end of the latest verbal sparring match between the Newlins and Nan Flanagan of the American Vampire League. The Newlins openly snap at each other; frayed ends showing.

At Merlotte’s, Eggs and Tara enter. When Lafayette sees Tara’s purple eye he fingers Eggs as the culprit already wary of the stranger. They get into a shouting match that nearly comes to blows, causing a scene in the restaurant, before Tara can shove Eggs out the door.

Sookie lounges naked in bed with Eric having playful, intimate pillow talk. Eric tries to convince her that she would make a perfect vampire. When Lorena calls to her from a chair at the foot of the bed, reminding Sookie of Bill. Eric and Sookie kiss passionately. Sookie wakes from the dream in shock.

The jail overflows with raucous town’s folk. Sam, in his own cell, hearing Maryann arrive outside panics, trapped and helpless. He paces, frustrated, then eyes a fly buzzing in the cell. At the front desk, Maryann vibrates and easily takes control of Sheriff Dearborn relieving him of his keys. She enters the holding area for Sam but only finds his discarded clothes.

Hoyt, Jessica and Hoyt’s mother sit at a booth in Merlotte’s. Despite Jessica’s best attempt to win her over mother won’t budge. She lets Jessica know in no uncertain terms that she won’t accept this union; her boy deserves better, including babies. Jessica realizes the hateful woman is right and storms off devastated, Hoyt following her out.

Maryann, Tara and Eggs play cards at Sookie’s when Lafayette enters with Tara’s mother; they’ve come for Tara. Tara and Eggs’ eyes go black and they attack the two. Lafayette manages to grab Tara and drag her away screaming.

At the Hotel Carmilla, Nan Flanagan angrily leans into Grodic and the others for the PR mess they have caused. Godric takes the brunt of responsibility and willingly resigns his role as sheriff.

Maryann strides into Merlotte’s looking for Sam: “The God who comes demands his sacrifice!” Everyone’s eyes go black under Maryann’s control; she demands they bring Sam to her.

At a flea bag motel Andy pours himself another drink when there is a knock at the door. Andy answers to find a stark naked Sam who he lets inside.

On the roof of the Hotel Carmilla dawn draws near. Godric stands ready to meet the light. Eric begs his maker not to destroy himself; falling to his knees, tears escaping. Grodic is firm, and sends Eric away, but Sookie says she will stay with Grodic till the end. The sun rises and Godric spreads his arms greeting it. He’s consumed by electric blue flames brilliantly fading away.
