What separates people who enjoy success from the majority who end up never getting what they want is how we respond to failure. It is what we do about failure that makes a big difference. There are three ways in which people respond to failure. Pattern 1: Give Excuses, Lay Blame & Give up What do some people do when they don't get what they want? They will start giving themselves lots of excuses and blame everything and everyone around them. They say things like, 'it's not fair', 'I'm just not smart enough' 'It's just too difficult', 'I'm too young' or 'I'm too old', 'I just didn't have the luck', 'the depressed economy affected me'. Feeling helpless and frustrated, this first group will stop taking action and give up! They will resign themselves to their goal being out of reach and live a life of mediocrity. Pattern 2: Keep Trying the Same thing Over and Over Again These are the people who have a lot more determination than the first. When they don't get their outcome, they will not quit. They will get themselves to take action again. The motto of this group is, 'I failed because I did not try hard enough' 'If I keep trying, I will eventually succeed'. So they keep taking action, putting in more time, energy and effort. No matter how many times they fail, they just keep trying harder and harder. Will they eventually achieve their goals? It depends. If they set small, incremental goals, they may, with enough time and effort eventually succeed. However, if they set big and exceptional goals, like becoming the top in their field, they will never be successful by just trying again and again. They may experience a better result, but they won't reach the goals they desire. Why? Because, although they keep taking action, they do not change their strategy. If you keep using the same approach, you are going to keep getting the same result. I have seen so many professionals and businessmen repeat this limiting pattern. I know many businessmen who fail in their business only to start again and do the same thing. They keep putting in ads that don't work, they hire ineffective people or they use the same business model. Pattern 3: Get Feedback, Change Strategy and Take Action until you Succeed. So what is the pattern that all successful individuals exhibit? When they don't achieve their goals, they don't think of it as failure. Instead, they perceive it as feedback. Either feedback that the strategy they used was ineffective or that they did not take enough action. They then use this feedback to immediately change their strategy and take action again. If they still don't succeed, they will get more feedback, change their strategy and take action again. They keep repeating this process until they get what they want. They do whatever it takes. So, remember, every time you don't get what you want, it is life giving you feedback. It is this continuous feedback you need to help you adjust your approach until you hit your target. Thomas Edison took almost 10,000 attempts before inventing the light bulb. When asked how he did it, he said that he had to first find 9,999 strategies of how not to invent the light bulb. He then used this feedback to change his strategy until he got what he wanted. Successful people re-look and change their strategy whenever they encounter 'failure'. They understand that failure is feedback. Understand this principle and you will overcome failure and achieve success in no time at all.
What, separates, people, who, enjoy, success, from, the, majority, who, end, up, never, getting, what, they, want, is, how, we, respond, to, failure., It, is, what, we, do, about, failure, that, makes, a, big, difference.,

To many people, Helen Adams Keller is a symbol of courage and ray of hope. After being shut off from the world at eighteen months old, this child fought a slow and difficult battle to become a sensitive, ambitious and intelligent woman. She devoted her whole life to write, speak and labored endlessly for the less fortunate.
Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 27, 1880. When she was nineteen months old, her life changed dramatically. She fell ill suddenly and the doctors did not expect her to live. Miraculously, the fever subsided but Helen’s illness had taken away her sight and hearing.
Helen grew up to be a very difficult child, terrorizing her family with her bad behaviors and temper tantrums. Looking after her has became too much of a challenge for them.
However, the situation changed on 3 March 1887. It was the day when Annie Adams Sullivan, a 21 year-old graduate, from the Perkins School for the Blind, was engaged to become her governess and teacher.
Annie taught Helen how to finger spell through repeated use of the manual alphabet with finger movements. But Helen was unable to understand what her teacher was trying to tell her. She also did not understand what the finger movements meant. Unable to express herself, Helen continued with her temper tantrums and screaming.
The epiphany came for Helen Keller on 5 April 1887. On this fine summer day, Annie brought Helen to a water pump. As the cold water splashed over Helen’s hand, Annie repeatedly spelt out the word “water’’ onto her hand.
Something about the coolness in the water may have brought out the meaning of the finger movements within Helen as she suddenly realized what her teacher has been trying to reach out to her.
In 1900, Helen started attending classes at Radcliffe College and Annie followed along. She industriously spelt lectures and notes onto her pupil's hand. When Helen completed her course four years later, she became the first deaf and blind person to graduate from a college.
At the same time, Helen has begun her writing career. Famous books included her autobiography, “The Story of My Life” and others such as “The World I Live In” and “Out of the Dark”.
After graduation, Helen and Anne traveled the world, giving inspirational lectures and sharing her experiences and beliefs to enthralled crowds. She was best remembered as an advocate for people with disabilities and she campaigned tirelessly, raising money to alleviate the living and working conditions of those who are blind and deaf-blind.
Besides writing many books and articles on blindness, deafness and socialism, Helen also appeared before state legislatures and international forums. Her effort brought the world's focus on problems about the blind as well as creating awareness on the need for preventive measures.
Despite the broad range of her interests, she founded Helen Keller International in 1915. It is a non-profitable organization, supporting and doing research on prevention of blindness. At the same time, Helen also gave her support to the programs conducted by Helen Keller Services for the Blind as well as Helen Keller National Center for the Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults.
In 1964, Helen was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award. A year later she was elected to the Women’s Hall of Fame.
Helen Keller continued tirelessly with the good work until her death on 1 June 1968. She has been described as “the woman who showed the world that there are no boundaries to courage and faith; and her spirit will endure as long as man can read and stories can be told of”.
Helen has proven that people with disabilities or inconveniences are not born to die and they not only can be independent but at the same time, have similar abilities to give endless contributions towards society as normal human beings.
Are you sometimes plagued with countless problems and difficulties that make you feel like it is the end of the world?
When facing such challenges, image yourself as Helen Keller, shut out in a black hole where you are not able to reach out to anyone.
Be touched by Helen’s never-ending spirit and courage. Never give up on your beliefs and preserve till the end.
If Helen is able to get out of her black hole and get ‘reborn’ again, so can you.

We've all been there, you have been given the task of organising a team building event. You've been told that it's got to be fun, interactive and business related and it's also got to be cost effective. What do you do and where do you start when facing this task?
It's always good to narrow down the task, don't see the big picture but firstly ask yourself some core questions; what are your objectives? If you've been asked to organise the team building event to have a business related benefit, then what in particular is it that you hope to illicit from the event? More often than not, it's a generic business issue it's not often the case that a particular business rule or regulation is learnt. It's normally something broader such as your company wants to improve communication or your delegates don't actually get chance to meet face to face and in order to improve relationships between departments, you want a team activity that will break the ice between them.
Once you have narrowed down the core objectives, then you can take a look at the circumstances that surround your conference or event. We already know that you want a team building event but is this event going to last a full day or are you having a meeting before or after it? The team building activities that you choose for a half day are very different than a full days activities.
Think about your groups normal levels of activity, are they up and about moving around most of the day or are they mainly based behind the desk? If they are normally behind a desk then it's crucial that you remember this. It's often the case that organisers want to fill up a full day of action packed activity but they forget that most of their team are simply not fit enough to last a full day. It's so important that you consider this, when people start feeling tired and exhausted, they start to feel that they are under achieving, they give up and then all of a sudden your fantastic planning of a good team building event has been pointless, it's actually been counterproductive.
Next you have to consider the time of year when looking at a specific activity. There are more people than you would imagine that look to organise water based inflatable activities in the winter - normally they are a great fun idea for a team building event but in the cold light of winter nobody wants to be standing around in the cold whilst dripping wet. If you are unsure about the suitability of any activity ask the team building company if they think it's suitable for the time of year.
Finally the age old consideration of your budget should be carefully thought about and it's still the case that less is more when choosing the right team building event. It's better to have a good quality three hour event than a longer event that doesn't cut the grade because your budget doesn't stretch.
So when you are looking to organise your team building event, please do think about all the areas that we have discussed but also call your team building company and talk to them. They have years of experience of running successful team events and they can help guide you towards the perfect solution for your group.
