I have been in search of the perfect vacuum cleaner for many years now. I have yet to find it I have been doing a lot of research and this is what I have found...

Canister designs have the motor and bag in a separate canister unit (usually mounted on wheels) connected to the vacuum head by a flexible hose. Although upright units have been tested as more effective (mainly because of the beaters), the lighter, more maneuverable heads of canister models are popular. Some upmarket canister models have "power heads", which contain the same sort of mechanical beaters as in upright units, although such beaters are driven by a separate electric motor.

Built-in or central vacuum cleaners move the suction motor and bag to a central location in the building and provide vacuum inlets at strategic places throughout the building: only the hose and pickup head need be carried from room to room; and the hose is  long, allowing a large range of movement without changing vacuum inlets. Plastic piping connects the vacuum outlets to the central unit. The vacuum head may either be unpowered or have beaters operated by an electric motor or air-driven motor. The dirt bag in a central vacuum system is usually so large that emptying or changing needs to be done less often, perhaps once per year. The central unit usually stays in "stand-by", and is turned on by a switch on the handle of the hose, or the unit powers up when the hose is plugged into the wall inlet. Such a unit also produces greater suction than common vacuum cleaners, because a larger fan and more powerful motor can be used when they are not required to be portable. Another benefit of a central vacuum system is that unlike a standard vacuum cleaner, which blows some of the dirt collected back into the room being cleaned (no matter how efficient its filtration), a central vacuum removes all the dirt collected to the central unit. Since this central unit is usually located outside the living area, no dust is recirculated back into the room being cleaned. In addition, because of the remote location of the motor unit, there is less noise in the room being cleaned than with a standard vacuum cleaner.

Robotic vacuum cleaners move autonomously, usually in a mostly chaotic pattern ('random bounce'). Some come back to a docking station to charge their batteries, and a few are able to empty their dust containers into the dock as well.

Small hand-held vacuum cleaners, either battery-operated or mains powered, are also popular for cleaning up smaller spills.

There are many different brands Eureka Dyson Oreck Dirt Devil... to name a few

Some are pretty expensive like the Oreck and Electrlux.

The dyson is pretty expensive too. I am very interested in the Rhoomba but I am wondering if it will get up pet hair also.

Does anyone have a perfect vacume if so what is it?

Impact on existing analog technology. In the US all TV's will be broadcast digitally. No longer will analog sets be able to pick up your favorite programs.February 17, 2009 is the deadline. All of our TV's will need the converters. This coupon will help pay for it.

To receive coupons for a discounted converter please go to:

https://www.dtv2009.gov/

The analog switch-off ruling, which so far has met with little opposition from consumers or manufacturers, would render all non-digital televisions obsolete on the switch-off date, unless connected to an external off-the-air tuner, analog or digital cable, or a satellite system. An external converter box (can be added to non-digital televisions to lengthen their useful lifespan. Several of these devices have already been shown and, while few were initially available, they are becoming more available by the day. Once connected to the converter unit, operation of non-digital units is seamless and, in most cases, rich in new features (in comparison to previous analog reception operation). In the US, the federal government supports the adoption of digital converters through the mailing of coupons, which cover around 80% of the cost of each unit.

Some existing analog equipment will be less functional with the use of a converter box. For example, television remote controls will no longer be effective at changing channels, because that function will instead be handled by the converter box. Similarly, video recorders for analog signals (including both tape-based vcrs and hard-drive-based dvrs will not be able to select channels, limiting their ability to automatically record programs via a timer or based on downloaded program information. Also, older, handheld televisions, which rely primarily on over-the-air signals, and battery operation, will be rendered impractical, since the proposed converter boxes are not portable, nor powered with batteries. Portable radios which feature the ability to listen to television audio on VHF channels 2-13 would also lose their ability to function, while television stations which formerly broadcast on ch.6 and were able to have their analog audio heard on common radios using a quirk in the system where their audio could be heard on the far end of the fm band at 87.7, would lose the ability for commuters to listen to their broadcasts.

Any new TVs that contain only an ATSC tuner prevent older devices, such as VCRs and video game consoles with only an analog RF output, from connecting to the TV. Connection would require an analog to digital converter box, which is the opposite as what is currently being sold. Such a box would also likely introduce additional delay into the video signal.

Do not be fooled into buying a new TV and thinking it will work because they are still selling analog. So be sure to ask the salesperson.
