Summer is in full swing and all I can dream about is a nice long vacation. It seems we work so hard every day but then our vacations are over before they begin. I am dreaming of Charleston South Carolina. It is a stunning city that is full of life and such rich history.

I look forward to going there. Where is your vacation paradise?

I just got back from visiting North Augusta, South Carolina and Augusta , Georgia yesterday morning. It was a much needed change of pace. While I was in Augusta I visited the River Walk on the Savannah River. It is a very beautiful place located in historic downtown Augusta.

In the summer months the children can play under the fountain , more often than not you find
the adults playing in the water alongside them. It is a very relaxed place where you can just let loose and enjoy yourself....

Once you enter the River walk this is one of the views you will see. We always do the bottom level first. It is by far my favorite. There are plenty of benches and shade so you can relax and cool off.

This is one of the many beautiful views of the river you get to enjoy from the river walk.
The river walk was a project that was started in 1987 it has brought life to historic Augusta.
Former Mayor Charles Devaney helped get this beautiful place started, he tried to do a lot for
Augusta. Unfortunately he passed away recently. His project remains for everyone to enjoy today.

This garden was finished in 1993. It is a water garden with a small waterfall. It is a very tranquil area.

It is shady and tranquil here. There are benches close by and wonderful views of the Savannah River.

I may be a bit biased but I do love Augusta Georgia. There are many beautiful things to see here. Also the Masters is held in Augusta. People from all over the world flock to see that if they are lucky enough to get tickets. The waiting list is long and I believe it is currently closed due to such a long list.

The view as I was walking back to my car... imagine yesteryear. The cobblestone streets. The small businesses. The charm is still there today. If ever you are in the neighborhood I recommend you visit the River Walk and also the Botanical Gardens both are free to the public.

Our destination today is to Salzburg, Austria. It is by far one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. I went there on three separate occasions when we lived in Karlsruhe, Germany. In my opinion the people were much more friendly and helpful there than in other countries of Europe. It is a city chocked full of history, great architecture, and beautiful sights.

While we visited we stayed at a bed and breakfast in a small town called Golling. There was a castle there and one of the best restaurants I have ever eatten at. The people were extremely friendly. The accomodations were beautiful and the price was fairly affordable. Remember we were a military family and my husband was only a E4 at the time. So if we were able to afford it you know it had to be reasonable.

I really would love to take the kids over to visit, however the cost now is astronomical especially considering airfare, and hotel. Before we were in Europe so we did not have the hefty airfare to pay.It is a lovely place with lots to do. Don't forget the Alps are there. There are some absolutely stunning views of the mountains and great ski area's if that is your thing.

I never knew that Salzburg Austria was Mozarts home town. There is a museum there in honor of him, also a lot of " souvenirs based on his being there. This is also one of the places The Sound Of Music was filmed. There are scenes in the movie of some of the places we visited while we were there.

This picture is one of the places that was on The Sound Of Music. The water is frozen and there are some leaves in it that is why it looks like that. The murals were quite breath taking.

We had a good time walking through the town. Along the way we stopped to see many shops and beautiful things. We even enjoyed some of the local entertainment.

We continued on our way and came to this large open area. It was the Salzburg Cathedral. It was so huge I could not get the whole building in the picture. This is the bottom of it , however it was quite large. I marveled at the wonderful craftmanship in the statues on the front.

The walk up to the fortress seemed to be never ending but we did get there it just took a while.

It was overcast for most of that day so this picture turned out rather dark. Remember these were taken by a 110 camera back in the early 90's the digital technology just was not as available.

View from the Autobahn while we were driving.

Inside the fortress walls... I was freezing it was the end of October, or early November when we went.

The view below... I love the way the rooftops look in these pictures. The country is so deep in history, you can just look at the architecture and tell. We spent the  rest of the day inside the fortress and had lunch there. There was a artist who was selling his prints inside also.

What could be better than being on top of the world and in love?We were both overwhelmed by the beauty of this majestic place. Both of us want to go back one day. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life.

I love my country... I love my home but if my heart ever felt the need to roam away from my dear land this is where it would land no doubt. Rich in tradition, history, and beauty what more could you ask for?
