Powerd by Blog Bloke

Not long ago I mentioned that Yahoo was giving me better results than Google. Well apparently Google recently changed it's algorithms again and it totally killed my blogs.

Where I used to have a pagerank of at least 7 or higher, I checked the other day and didn't even have a ranking. Ok, that was supposed to mean Google was still evaluating me, and so I waited. No problem I said, but I check again today and now I'm only a 1 ???

WTF !!!

To say that I'm angry is an understatement. So please pardon my french.

The Issue Is:

What will be my rank tomorrow? A 4 perhaps? It's anybody's guess at this time. Just follow the bouncing ball. Crikey, following the stock market is easier on the nerves.

I've heard of blogs being penalized for using Text Link ads but I don't even use them. So what's your excuse this time Google?

Maybe there's a good reason for it or maybe there isn't, but that's not the point. The issue is -- where's the consistency Google?

The Dilemma:

We are at the whim of an arbitrary algorithm created by faceless dorks in an overcrowded office cubicle. Or some google goomba who might not like the colour of our template can hand-edit rank us into oblivion.

Frankly I am sooooo fed up with Google having a stranglehold on the search engine market. I've played by the rules and where did it get me?

For years I've been working my a$$ off developing my blogs as a public service (for nothing) just so some idiot at Google can come along and arbitrarily pull the rug from underneath me ... and for no apparent reason! I don't think so.

What To Do?

I've already changed my browser's default search to Yahoo. I suggest you do the same ... use anything but Google.

When you play God long enough you start to believe it. If Google really is God then I'm going to commit blasphemy and give it the finger. All the more reason why I'm moving off Blogger and away from anything related to Google.

Oh, and one more thing. Today I'm officially declaring Google's pagerank biased and completely irrelevant to evaluating the worth of a blog. That goes for Technorati and Alexa too.

So don't even bother wasting your time obsessing over it. It's a joke.

Have search engines gone too far?
I admit I enjoy Gmail, Google search engines, and other various google products. I also am very impressed with Google's business strategies and overall power as a company. However... have you heard of the Church of Google and/or Googlism?

9 proofs
This Church of Google claims 9 proofs why Google is god. It claims things like claiming Google is Omniscient and Omnipresent, it can answer our prayers and lives an immortal life on one or millions of servers. A website religion? Have search engines gone too far? Are they too powerful?

Power of Google
I for one, fear the power of search engines, and their ability to control what we want to see, or know. A huge majority of advertising is now done through search engines, and more specifically google, and it is growing at an alarming rate. Google is gaining control of more information, more money, more history, than anything we've ever known. Google as a corporation and search engine behemoth is threatening our web independence.

Evil Google
I begin to wonder if Google is simply just Big Brother keeping an eye on us all. Google has the potential to be very evil, if this power gets into the wrong hands, or if greed sets in, google could rule the world.

Irony
In the meantime, please use google search engine at the bottom of this page, and use google adsense to the right side of your screen, to click on relevant links you might enjoy. And yes, I am fully aware of hypocritical irony here.

Seems impossible, doesn't it? Well Google makes the impossible possible. They've done it again with today's earnings. If you look closely at the reports, Google also announces increase market share 57% in September as compared to 56.5% in August (data from comScore). A growing market share with growing profits with growing industry spells success for Google!

Link Building to Increase Search Engine Ranking

Link building is definitely the hot thing right now. So, what exactly is link building? Simply put, link building means increasing the number of links on other websites which point to your website. Why do this? The idea is that in the eyes of the search engines, the more links a site has pointing to it, the more relevant and important it must be, therefore it gets ranked higher.

There are several ways to build external links, some more effective than others:

1. Submit your site to directories. This used to be very effective, but now since it seems like everyone is doing it, the search engines have caught on a bit, and it has also leveled the playing field to some extent. Submitting your site to directories in your industry is the best way to go.

2. Join online forums. Most forums allow you to have a signature which includes your url. Every time you post a comment, your url appears, thus another external link is born. Contribute to these forums, post new topics, get involved. The bonus is you can learn something while you're there.

3. Write and submit articles. If you like to write, this is a great tool for you. You can submit your articles to sites such as http://www.ezinearticles.com/, where others may use your articles on their sites. Every time your article appears, so does your signature which includes your link.

4. Join social networking sites. Sites such as http://www.linkedin.com/ (Which I use) or Myspace or Facebook are great places to interact with others, post comments, and a great place to build links.

5. Blogs. Start your own blog - its free and easy at http://www.blogger.com/ or http://www.wordpress.com/. It's a great source for links, and creates lots of relevant content. Also, post comments on other's blogs. This will create more links to you, plus if you post a comment on someone's blog, they are more likely to check yours out and do the same.

Keep in mind, though, link building is just one effective tool in the SEO arsenal. Do it well, but don't neglect the other methods.
