How to Succeed in Social Media

I'd venture to guess that many people stumble into social media just like I did without realizing the great potential this form of networking has to absolutely revolutionize our current forms of communication.

You have Facebook where you can update hundreds of people (even thousands for the really popular peeps) in a matter of moments.

You have Twitter where you can communicate and network with others who share the same field you do, or just like I did the other day, you can connect with celebrities (MC Hammer was appreciative of my comment about his nice tie, so he replied to me on Twitter).

Then, there's YouTube, where you can make and upload any type of video imaginable and someone will tune in.

These are only the most popular, I didn't even get into the other 20 social media sites that are changing the face of communications.

But, in light of all the options and considering that I'm an internet marketer focused on making sales for my home business, what do I need to do to tap the potential of social media and begin to gather customers who will loyally follow me for years to come? In other words, let me tell you how to (begin to) succeed in social media.

You have to begin somewhere, so let's start here, PATIENCE:

Social media is about building relationships and that takes time. If you don't want to build relationships and you want to go out and make quick sales of whatever you're selling, figure out pay-per-click, that will get you customers almost immediately.

But for those of us who desire to build relationships and enjoy the party that is social media, I much prefer gathering customers from a group of folks who trust me. This takes time in social media, and therefore you must, absolutely MUST be patient. Social media success will only come when you are willing to stop selling your product and provide real quality content and friendship to people. Then, trust me, as they trust you, sales will come!

Second, you must be resilient. I don't have to be very detailed to get this point across, social media is work and you have to continue to be working at it to succeed at it. Make a habit of every day spending time on social media sites building relationships, making videos for others to enjoy, commenting on other people's thoughts and feelings, and finally offering good advice and content. Success in social media will come if you work hard at it and are resilient to a fault.

And, lastly, never ever ever never ever quit! Why spend a month or two really working hard, not seeing any sales or results, and then quit? You may very well be on the cusp of a breakthrough. Believe me, people will like you in social media, they will. If you quit, you will never find them, and you will never have anything meaningful to sell them. So, don't quit!

There, how to succeed in social media; be patient, be resilient, and don't quit!

Online communities like Facebook have become a thorn in the side of many businesses over recent years, but social media and collaborative online tools can be of benefit to employees and employers. As a way to share knowledge and innovation within an industry social tools are both cost and time-effective. Some businesses have already implemented a ban on social media however, so how can you reconcile this distrust of online tools with their usefulness? Just how much should you trust employees to use them and how much should you formalise the process?

The trouble with formalising anything that has grown up naturally is that it stifles growth and changes the way people use it. Formalisation can take away the spontaneity, especially if it's something employees have already been using themselves. Management should ensure that they understand how people use the tools and why, and strive to keep all the positive aspects.

There is a good argument to say that use of these informal tools should be encouraged, especially during the economic downturn. At a time when training budgets are being cut any free knowledge base or learning solution should be embraced. On the other hand, time spent using these tools needs to be justified.

For any time spent on informal learning to be justified it needs to be tracked effectively, and this is something management can implement without over-formalising the learning itself. For example, tracking the amount of time spent on social tools or having collaboration meetings where people can discuss new ideas allows managers to note the real-time cost and effectiveness of those tools.

For large organisations who want to utilise social tools to disseminate knowledge, a great idea is to put all of their training materials online. Instead of organising a costly conference for example that people have to travel to, make the information available as presentations through the company website. This allows many people access to training in their own time, or at a time that fits in around their schedule. It's formal learning in an informal environment.

You'll hear a lot about OPTIMIZING your website, once you've joined an Affiliate Marketing programme. What does this mean, and how do you get started? Why is it so important to do this?

If we go back to the internet, and understand how it operates, we will understand why we have to do something more to get visitors to your site. The principles are actually quite simple, and if you understand how the system works, you'll have a clearer understanding of what you need to do.

The internet is based on a system that links people who are looking for information with others who can provide the required information. If you want facts about improving your golf-swing, you would type into the "search" box, something like:

"How do I fix my golf swing?" What you have just done is to enter the KEYWORDS which will be used to locate a website about golf and which will provide tips on how to improve your swing. The search engines send spiders to crawl golfing websites until they find a selection of sites which may have the information you need.

You don't need to be too involved in the technology as long as you understand the principles. If you have a website about golf, and you offer tips to improve a golf swing, your website must be sprinkled with a selection of keywords which a potential visitor might type in to his computer.

Then you need to select the best keywords for your purpose. Because of the countless websites about golf on the internet, the trick is to achieve a balance between the most visited keywords, used by the sites on page one of the search engine, and less visited keywords, which will get you onto a reasonably accessible listing. The competition to get near to page one is fierce. There are almost five hundred thousand results listed for this inquiry in just one of the search engines. Your chances of beating them to page one are very slim indeed!

There is some very clever (free) software available to help you find the right balance. If you type in something like: Free keyword software, you'll have plenty of options to look at. You'll be assisted to find some appropriate keywords, and to strike a balance between the most visited words (which aren't available to you yet) and those that will serve your purpose, to get your site listed on something better than page 200 000!

Having decided on your keywords, you'll need to place them in strategic positions around your website. This is a fairly tricky process, so if you're not that technically inclined, you might pay someone to do it for you.

If youre serious about having a home based business, then you need to prepare. The leading reason for a failing home based business is the lack of preparation people commit after theyve made a decision to start a home based business.

So what kind of home based business opportunity should you take on? Do you want to have an internet-based home business? Millions have done it, are doing it and are earning good livings doing so.

Here are three different kinds of Internet based business models you can try:

1) Be an online retailer for reputable companies. Your home based internet business can give reviews about all the products and services of these companies. Your customers will browse around your website, and then click on to the link. The link will send the customer to the companys customer service website, which takes care of processing and shipping their order.

Your home based online business website does the marketing, promoting and advertising aspects for these companies. Your commission comes from the proceeds of the sale. You dont even have to spend money for expensive e-commerce software.

2) You may not be able to bear the pain of separating from your oldest possessions, but how about auctioning these things off? For a minimal entry fee and closing fee, you can put your prized possessions on auction at Ebay or other spin-offs found on the net. This is a virtually free home based business since you dont pay for web presence. Youll get traffic since Ebay receives as many as 4 million visitors a day, and you wont need to worry about your e-commerce software. Plus your small home based internet business stays open even when you go fishing!

3) Sell information. You can start your home based internet business by writing on a subject that you enjoy or are knowledgeable about. If you can do this, then this small home based internet business is for you. Write your e-book and sell it on sites like Ebay.com, ebookAd.com, or Clickbank.com.

I am going to show you how you can make money on www.flixya.com. You’ll write articles and your ads will make the money for you. This is something I have tried and it’s not a scam. I am currently making money from this site.

Things You’ll Need:
Time
A google adsense account
Sign up for a flixya.com account
Step1
www.flixya.com is a site where you write a blog or an article, upload photos and videos; basically socialize with everyone. We all do this on myspace.com, facebook.com and other sites. However, the positive thing about fixya.com is you’ll be making money from the ads placed on your profile.
Step2
You will be receiving 100% of the revenues from the clicks around your articles, blogs, photos, videos, etc. Now, come on who wouldn’t want to make some extra cash? Especially if you love writing, like I do, then you will be doing something you enjoy and most likely do often anyways for free. Except this time you’ll be getting paid for it.
Step3
Now, the question is who pays you? Google adsense is your answer. You can sign up for a google adsense account here: http://walkaboutangel.googlepages.com/googlestuff
Step4
Then once you sign up you will be giving a pub number, which you will use on flixya.com.
Step5
Once you have everything set up, you’ll be making money by the clicks you get to the google ads in your profile. The way to get clicks to your ads is to write articles or blogs and then promote them so that you can drive traffic to your ads. Trust me, it’s a lot easier than it sounds.
Check out my profile on flixya.com and contact me for more details:
