Facts About Heart Disease You Need To Know

Author: Cindy Heller

Basically, heart disease is a disorder affecting the ability of the heart to function normally. There are many forms of heart disease of varied etiology.

The most widespread form of heart disease is high cholesterol. In the initial stages of the disease, lesions and cracks will form in the walls of blood vessel walls, usually close to the heart itself. The body will repair the damage by depositing fatty substances such as cholesterol and lipoproteins to fill the cracks.

If the body does not get adequate vitamin C that are vital for keeping the blood vessel walls from cracking, the repeated deposition of fatty substances can clog the blood vessels and thus cause a stroke or heart attack.

Types of Heart Diseases

The common forms of heart disease are: coronary heart disease, ischaemic heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, hereditary heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, inflammatory heart disease, and valvular heart disease.

Heart diseases may also occur due to congenital reasons, heart valve malfunction, electrical rhythm of the heart going out of sync, alcoholic cardiomyopathy, aortic regurgitation, heart attacks and heart failure.

Causes of Heart Disease

The major causes of heart disease include obesity, smoking, hypertension, diabetic and a sedentary lifestyle. Others include menopause in women, getting on in age, especially after reaching sixty-five years of age and finally, the arterial walls being struck down with infections.

Damage to the heart muscle or valves due to a congenital defect, as well as inflammation and damage associated with various viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic diseases can also cause heart disease.

Disease can also cause heart disease, for example atherosclerosis, dermatomyositis, Friedrich's ataxia, hemochromatosis, Kawasaki disease and Paget's disease of bone. Rheumatic fever and syphilis can also cause heart disease, as can genetic or autoimmune disorders in which cellular proteins in the heart muscle are deranged or which disrupt enzymes affecting cardiac function.

Common Symptoms of Heart Disease

The most common symptoms of heart disease include heaviness or pressure on the chest; dizziness; nausea; shortness of breath; back or shoulder pain; irregular or fast heartbeats and excessive heart palpitations. If one encounter any of these problems, it would be prudent to consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Diagnosing Heart Disease

Everyone should be concerned with heart disease and should discuss testing for heart disease with a doctor especially if one have a family history or aggravating lifestyle choices. High blood pressure, frequent loss of breath, heavy smoking or drinking, obesity, high cholesterol, inactivity and diabetes are sound reasons for heart disease testing.

Cure for Heart Disease

On diagnosis of heart disease, the doctor will probably recommend that a patient adopt a healthy lifestyle such as having frequent exercise, a healthy diet, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes.  The next treatment will more than likely involve medications and finally surgery.

Although there are many different forms of treatment for heart disease, there is no cure for heart disease. There are promising theories, however none yet have been perfected yet.

Cellular therapy is promising as a possible cure for heart disease. Cellular products have been shown to hold great potential for the treating of damaged and diseased tissues in the body. The sources for cellular product also come in a variety of sources, such as bone marrow stem cell and peripheral blood, as well as from myoblasts from skeletal muscle cells.

Cellular therapy is a growing field for clinical research. It is of growing interest to medical researchers as potential treatments for congestive heart failure and ischemic heart disease, for instance.

The research to date has shown positive results. There are also various other forms of promising treatment. So a cure for heart disease may be a reality in the future.

All treatment for heart disease should be discussed with a doctor but most of the medications will be available on prescription.  If the medication is not effective, then the last option may be surgery. There are wide ranges of surgeries and many of them are less invasive so recovery time is shorter.

One should also understand that heart disease is preventable by living a healthy lifestyle such as regular exercise, having low salt and low fat diets as well as abstaining from alcohol and smoking. After all, prevention is much better than cure.

Crohns Disease & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - Is There A Cure?

Author: Steve Holloway

For the individuals who suffer from the mysterious symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), or the debilitating symptoms of Crohns Disease the question "Is there a cure?" weighs heavily on their lives.  The frustration that results from living with this non-specific illness serves to compound the never ending symptoms.  Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Crohn's sufferers continue to battle the illness while researchers search for causes and cures.

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) describe Crohn's as "Crohn's disease is a chronic (ongoing) disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Although it can involve any area of the GI tract from the mouth to the anus, it most commonly affects the small intestine and/or colon."

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is described as "A group of symptoms, of unknown cause, characterized by unexplained fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, feeling poorly, trouble thinking, and sometimes, fever and/or lymph node swelling."

There is currently no cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Chron's Disease.  There is no magic pill, no immunization, and no medication that can rid sufferers of the debilitating symptoms of CFS and CD.  However, individuals who suffer from CFS and CD can successfully manage their symptoms.  Using current interventions including prescription medications, alternative therapies, and a comprehensive nutritional plan, CFS and CD patients can find relief.

Upon receiving a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Crohns Disease, the patient is advised to seek as much information as possible from current and reputable sources.  Because little is still known about CFS and CD, information is limited but available.  Reliance on sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and the medical research departments of large universities will yield the best information.  CFS and CD patients are advised to beware of quack treatments or anyone offering a "cure".  Armed with information, the CFS sufferer can assist in making the most viable choices for his or her treatment plan.

A reasonable treatment plan should include a combination of therapies.  By discussing a plan with a competent medical professional, the patient can assist in developing the best plan for him or her.  A medical professional may prescribe prescription drugs that may alleviate the constant fatigue or intestinal pain that accompanies CFS and CD.  In addition to prescription medications, seeking the help of a nutritionist will assist in managing the illness.  It is common knowledge that a good diet can assist in recovering successfully from many illnesses - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Crohns are no exception.  A reasonable nutritional plan may not only include a diet of whole foods, but may also include nutritional supplements.  Additionally, the CFS and Crohns sufferer may find relief with the assistance of alternative therapies.  Hypnosis, yoga, massage and other forms of relaxation can provide much needed relief from symptoms.

Although Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Crohns cannot yet be cured, sufferers can successfully manage their illness using a multi-pronged treatment approach.  Being among some of the most difficult illnesses to manage Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Crohn's Disease management involves several major lifestyle changes.  Commitment to these lifestyle changes may well be the key to ending, or at least, minimizing the suffering.

Lyme Disease - The Defintion Of

By Ian Pennington

Lyme disease, also known as borreliosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted by ticks or mites.

The diagnostic criteria for CDC (Center of Disease Control) is not being very precise because it excludes many cases of Lyme reliable as it has been shown in many studies to confirm that this condition testserológics cast, in countless reports, false negatives, so that the diagnosis in the absence of better tests, remains an exercise in practical sagacity by the doctor - as was at the time of romantic doctor endowed with the "clinical eye."

Lyme is known as the new great imitators as it can display symptoms of various diseases such as: chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, affective disorder depression, madness megaloblastic, dementia, ALS, lupus syndrome of the Gulf War , Buttons and some fever and various other entities. (See my articles: The Science Epigenetics, the Pregnancy "Normal" and obesity: A Parable in Three Acts and The Madness megaloblastic).

There is sufficient evidence indicating that the active infection by B. burgdorferi is the cause of acute illness and the persistent symptoms in chronic Lyme.

Because Lyme if not detected in time almost always progresses to form rooted and persistent, making those affected require prolonged treatment or even indefinitely.

This disease was first described in the U.S. (in Lyme, Connecticut) in 1975. [] Almost 100% of the cases are presented during the hot season in this country, when people are engaged in outdoor activities and where ticks abound. At the beginning of the infection develops the initial stage of the disease, also called "initial Lyme disease," but if the victim does not receive medical treatment indicated at this stage, it can advance its state secondary and even worse to trigger tertiary stage.

The pathogens are involved infectious agents equipped with a virulence that is important to identify, prevent and treat. The initial suspicion that these agents produced clinical content has been completely overtaken after the description of serious and chronic evolution tables in untreated patients.

The entity is diagnosed through a thorough physical examination in which they can discover cardiac abnormalities in the joints, or in the brain. As additional laboratory process is recommended to make an examination of Elis.

Treatment at this stage involves the application of antibiotics, which vary depending on the state of the disease, and the patient's age. They also are usually given ibuprofen, to relieve inflammation and stiffness.

Lyme Disease secondary

At this stage of the disease, in addition to the initial symptoms are presented: heart palpitations, blurred vision, neurological problems (deterioration of the functions of speech and language, hallucinations, facial paralysis, uncoordinated movements, paranoid ideas and confusion).

In this case the physical examination can elucidate cardiac and neurological deficiencies.

Lyme disease can cause a host of symptoms, some of which are severe. These symptoms are divided into two categories: Symptoms of early stage and symptoms of advanced stage.

Symptoms of early stage: these usually begin between the third day and first month after the bite. They appear as symptoms of the flu virus with (usually) with the appearance of the skin and the red circular rash characteristic of the sting, called erythema migrans (EM).
