Terriers are small dogs of various breeds originally used for turning out foxes, rats, rabbits etc from the ground. Characteristics and features of terrier dogs have been introduced and strengthened by breeding with animals who already demonstrated the desired traits. The terrier dogs are small to medium size and are often described as fiery or feisty. All breeds of terrier dogs can make ideal pets, Wheaton terrier, Border terrier, Scottish terrier, Bull terrier, Cairn terrier, Irish terrier, West Highland White terrier to name a few.

Terrier

Terriers were originally developed to hunt rodents and other pests. Terriers have either short or long-legged body types. Terriers come in three coat types: wire, smooth and soft. Terriers adapt well to city life, but prefer lots of exercise. Terriers are very cute and a very intense. Terriers can make anyone fall in love with them. Terriers are loyal pets that will be there when you need them.

Dog

Dogs in the Terrier group were developed to hunt and kill vermin. Breeding for appearance was only introduced in the 19th Century. If you are choosing terrier dogs, view breed pictures and a photo of a puppy. Terrierdogs have always been viewed as real assets by their owners and have worked with man for centuries. Before this time dogs and puppies were bred to increase useful abilities and traits helpful for the duties they were intended for. The breeds versatile talents made them a favorite of farmers and ranchers for such uses as protection, livestock driving, family companions, and as catch dogs for hogs and semi-wild cattle.

Puppies

Puppies are well socialized and very playful. These wonderful puppies will make excellent additions to your family. Home raised puppies have lots of loving in them.

Yorkshire

Yorkshire Terriers, otherwise known as Yorkies, have a long history of being popular pets and companions in the United States. Yorkshire Terriers are also clever, independent, energetic, and are very loyal and affectionate with their owners. Yorkshire Terriers are easily recognizable by their compact size and long tan and blue coat that traditionally parts on the spine. Yorkshire Terriers are an AKC-recognized breed in the Toy group.

Boston

Boston Terriers are typically compactly built, small, well proportioned dogs with short tails, erect ears, and a short muzzle. Boston Terriers are a special dog breed with unique puppy care requirements. Boston Terrier however is somewhat of a misnomer however because the American Kennel Club does not consider them to be terriers, but they are considered a part of the non-sporting group. Boston Terriers are eager to learn and are therefore easy to train.

Rat

Rat Terrier dogs are available in many colors. Rat Terrier dogs can be a good choice if you live in a small house or apartment. Rat Terrier dogs make great companions and are an excellent choice if you are looking for a dog. Rat Terrier dogs and puppies are offered for sale by responsible Rat Terrier dog breeders. Although their fiery temperaments are useful when hunting rats, it can make them prone to snap, especially when over excited children are near.

Terriers are fun to own and be with. They are very loyal pets and like nothing better than sitting on your lap when they are not running in circles in the back yard till they run out of energy (and air).

Congratulations! After searching long and hard at the shelters, thru the newspaper and even enlisting friends and family in your search, you've found the right dog! So what's next? Giving him/her a proper name of course!

So you think to yourself, just any ol name won't do. It's got to be unique, something different! Well, allow me to give you a few dog naming categories that will hopefully help you to come up with some really novel names for your four legged friend.

First though, when coming up with a name keep in mind a few things to watch out for.

1. Stay away from names that might be potentiallyembarrassing to both you AND your dog. The name "Stinky" might be cute at first, but once the joke gets old, think of how you'll feel a year from now when you have to call "Stinky" home at night. Embarrassing names could also apply to negative words that might rhyme with your dogs name.

2. There's been a tendency in recent years to give dogs human names. Though there's nothing wrong with this, be kind to your pooch and name him after someone you like. Also, if want to name him after someone you know, better check with that person first to see if it's alright. I'm not sure how much your human friend Max will like hearing, "Get off the couch Max!" or worse "We took Max to get fixed today.”

3. If possible, keep the name to one or two syllables. Dogs not only learn it quicker, but it makes them easier to train as well.

On with the names!

In this article I've listed just 3 of the many dog name categories that might help you to think a bit outside the box when coming up with great puppy names. They are,

Unique Dog Names: Have you ever considered naming your dog after something that you eat or drink? I'm serious. Allow me to give you just a few examples that will hopefully get your creative juices flowing….

Bon Bon: I can see this as a good name for a small black dog.
Caviar: For a dog with expensive tastes. Maybe a good Poodle name?
Jalapeno: A good name for a dog with a sometimes fiery disposition.
Crouton: Another good name for a small breed. Maybe a Chihuahua?
Latte: Possibly a good name for a black dog.
Kahlua: I can see this name on a brown dog.

As strange as it sounds, many more food and drink related dog names can be as close as your refrigerator, pantry or liquor cabinet!

Cool Dog Names: The dictionary defines the word "cool" as something that's fashionable, or hip. To me, when it comes to dog names, a name that's "cool" is a name that one doesn't normally hear. One that is creative enough to be memorable. And that perhaps matches that particular dogs appearance or disposition.

Here's just a few names from my site that I put into the "cool" dog name category for starters...

Aspen, Azure, Capri, Charisma, Denali, Java, Mahala, Maui, Mignon, Nirvana, Pirouette, Rio, Sahara, Sierra, Taboo, Tiara

Funny Dog Names: By funny, I'm referring to cute dog names that will match it's physical appearance. Here's just a few ideas…

Espresso: For an energetic black dog.
Kisses: For a small affectionate pup.
Brutus: For a BIG dog.
Putt-Putt: For a dog with short legs.

Here's some additional ideas…

Big Dog Names: Barbarian, Big Foot, Butkus, Chewbacca, Genghis, Godzilla, Hummer, Terminator, T-Rex, Tsunami

Small Dog Names: Doodle, Gumball, Kewpie, Laptop, Nibbles, Widget

For additional funny ideas, think opposites! Peanut for a BIG dog, Moose for a small dog.

If you spent as much time as you did when finding the perfect dog, why not spend a little extra time in finding the perfect name? Your dog will thank you for it!

Potty training a dog is one of the most frustrating things you will have to do. Take heart in the fact that once your dog gets the potty training, you won't have to teach it again. In many ways, potty training can be rewarding too. Not only can you help your pets to stop making messes on your favorite carpeting, but you can develop a strong relationship of trust and bonding with them to.

Here are 5 steps to make potty training successful in your home.

1.Use a crate. Crate training is very effective. A crate is used to allow your pet to have a place to sleep and teaches them to control their bladder. They won't soil their bedding. Then, when it is time to get up and go out, you can easily do just that. The dog learns from the start that you control potty time.

2.After meals, give your pet 15 minutes and then take them out. Food is a trigger not only to eat but also to go. When it comes to potty training success, allow your pet to get outside when the urge is approaching. What's more is that you shouldn't leave food out. Put it down for them at the designated time and allow them to eat for 15 minutes to 30 minutes and remove the bowl. Soon he will learn and that again allows you to control potty time.

3.Pick a potty spot. Select the area of your yard that you want your pet to go in. Take them to that spot every time to go. This will help your puppy to learn that when he needs to go, he needs to come here. What's more is that the smell of urine is yet another trigger to your pet to go.

4.Don't reward them with food. Remember that rewards need to be emotional, and therefore it is more successful to give them a reward of a patting and rub down then it is for you to hand them a treat. Also, treats are food which triggers potty time again!

5.Reward success, but don't punish accidents. Although you will be angry and you will want to punish your pet, your pet does not see this as a bad thing. He sees it as attention. He also can become aggressive as well as not like to be around you. Dogs don't relate their potty mistake to the punishment you are given them. Instead, ignore them when they do something wrong. Don't speak to them or interact with them.

Caring for your dog is hard work, but when it comes to potty training, success can and will happen when you install these five tips into your program.

How does one choose good hunting dogs without getting stung? Many dog breeders are like horse traders—you get what you get, and that isn't what was listed. So a dog breeder's reputation, letters of reputation or phone calls, and looking at siblings or mother and father of the dog means a lot when looking for good hunting dogs. Make sure they have some form of guarantee and for how long they guarantee the puppy or dog.

But what is good for one hunter may not mean the same for another, so make sure you know what you want before going out and looking. Do you want versatile good hunting dogs for all-purpose hunting, or one that is excellent at squirrel hunting or coon hunting? Look at where they will be living the remaining time—will it it he be a family member? Make sure the breed you want is one you have information on and have done your homework on. Just because grandpa had one doesn't mean you know what you need to know regarding the purchase of good hunting dogs.

Good hunting dogs need to be disease from and have clean genetic lines, regardless the breed. Make sure routine worming has been done as a puppy—which has usually been done from two weeks. Also, look at their shot records—did they receive a two-week puppy shot series with only two weeks between them, beginning around five or six weeks? Once the puppy is weaned from its mother, its immune system becomes compromised, and it is up to the breeder to maintain that system up to eight weeks of age when it leaves the next. A breeder who sells before then is not worth his/her weight in salt. Good hunting dogs mean that—a good hunting dog, not one that is haphazardly bred to make a quick buck. Georgia is famous for good hunting dogs, as most Georgia hunters think more of their dogs than anywhere else, but make sure you don't get a bad breeder anyway.
