A new year is upon us. A fresh beginning. Twelve whole months to achieve this, become that, and acquire the other. Whatever your goals or resolutions are for 2007, be they overwhelmingly gigantic, or very reasonably attainable, the secret to achieving them is to take consistent steps in the direction you want to go in.

And believe it or not, the first step is to know not only what you want, but why you want it. This is important because it goes to the heart of your motivation. If you’re not crystal clear as to why you want what you want, then when the usual procrastination triggers occur you’re very likely to fall prey to them. This may sound a little off the wall, but you may not want what you think you want, or you may not want it for the reasons you think.

It is a very common experience among coaches to have clients show up with a particular agenda, and for it to emerge some sessions down the line that the real agenda is something else entirely. Why? Because for the most part we live our lives unconsciously, and we set ourselves goals and follow them unconsciously. When we get in touch with what really matters to us, we often discover that what we really want is much more simple than what we thought we were after all along.

Or indeed it may be much more complex and challenging a prospect than what we wanted to take on, and therefore we were trying to convince ourselves that we wanted something else, something easier to achieve. Knowing what we really want, and why we really want it, can be unsettling, but it is also energising and motivating. When it’s a deeply felt authentic desire, pursuing it will be a joy in itself.

When you get down to the essence of what you want, you can tell immediately if it supports your core values or is in conflict with them. If there’s a conflict, you can be absolutely certain that you will sabotage yourself along the way, even though you might not be consciously aware of why you’re not seeing it through. When your goals are in alignment with your values, you’ll have the commitment to see it through despite the difficulties you’ll encounter.

One of my major ambitions for this year is to start running personal retreats helping people to learn how to be truly happy. I want to build outdoor adventure activities into the mix, and make these workshops a significant part of my business. I don’t know when, or where exactly, or the precise how-to’s yet. But none of that worries me because I do know why I want to do it.

I want to do this because I want to combine group coaching with fun activities, as I come across people all the time who are prepared to spend more money on holidays than on their own personal development, and yet they are asking themselves why they aren’t happy. And I am committed to helping people to realise that they can be happy right here right now, without the perceived perfect life conditions they wish for.

I want to do it because it will be fun for me too, and I am totally committed to having fun in my life at all times. For me, fun isn’t about frivolity, or at least not exclusively It’s about thoroughly enjoying what I’m doing at the time I’m doing it.

I also want to feel free at all times. Freedom for me is about always feeling that I have a choice, never doing something out of a feeling of obligation, but rather because right now it’s what I want to do.

I want my life to be a continuous adventure. The fact that right now I just have the bare bones of a plan, with all of the details still to be fleshed out, scared me at first. But now I view it as an adventure. I know what I want and why I want it, and I’m going to give myself as much time as I need to discover exactly how to, rather than pressurising myself to deliver it as soon as possible. To do that would be to make it too much like hard work - the opposite of fun and freedom Hmm, I might even need to head off on some personal retreat for myself as a first step - what a thrilling idea...

And along the way, I might discover that what I really want to do is something else entirely. That would be absolutely fine with me, as I would make that discovery doing what I really, really want, which is to explore possibilities with a sense of fun and freedom.

So, my point is, before blindly chasing your goals, know why it is you’re going after them. What will having achieved that give you? Stay focussed on the essence of what you’re after, and if you end up taking detours along the way, or even changing course altogether, it really won’t matter. You’ll have enjoyed the journey, which at the end of the day is what life is all about.

Diet programs come and go and every year seems to bring a new 'proven method' to take off the pounds, become healthier in the process and essentially change your entire life style as the new you emerges. Indeed, some diets just reinvent themselves and cycle back into popularity every few years. The detox diet, which really has been around for centuries, is one of those.

There are many detox diet books and programs in the stores today and they all have their own particular viewpoint on how best to cleanse the body and rid it of toxins. However, most all of these programs boil down to the essential fact that they are extremely low calorie and primarily liquid diets.

Rather than go through the subtle variations that exist between different detox diet programs, I would like to concentrate on the dangers and side effects of this kind of a diet.

When you are no longer taking solid food and you go through a period of fasting vitamin deficiencies occur as well as muscle breakdown and blood sugar problems. When we deprive our bodies of the vitamins and minerals that they need and get from solid food we run the risk of actually weakening the body's ability to battle infections and a whole host of biological attacks.

In addition, because what we do take in has many of the qualities of a laxative, we will soon find ourselves running to the bathroom regularly and having liquid bowel movements. Because detox diets upset sodium, potassium and blood sugar levels, those who suffer from either diabetes, heart or kidney problems or who are pregnant should stay far away frm these types of diets.

Indeed, many health experts claim that our body does not need any type of extreme diet to cleanse itself. They say that the body does a very good job of ridding itself of toxins and that there is no scientific evidence that detox diets are either helpful or necessary. Healthy folks already have a kind of built-in detoxification system working in their bodies; the liver, lungs, kidneys and skin.

This time around, detox diets have gotten a huge bump in popularity from stories of celebrities who have used these diets and have successfully lost weight. Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah Winfrey are a few of the notable personalities who have publicly stated that they have used these programs. Is it any wonder that the detox diet has captured the imagination of the public?

Diet programs that are successful and long lasting usually involve changes in personal habits and lifestyle. Any diet that succeeds in the short term due to a jarring impact on the body usually fails in the long run because the weight is immediately put back on once the fasting stage is over. Detox diets may also have dangerous consequences to one's health that should not be ignored when considering whether or not to start a program of this kind.

It is difficult to understand that if alcohol is so damming then why the hell is it legal and how on earth can it be accepted in certain social groups. On the other hand our society at large does try and enforce limitations on this and other unhealthy habits, but they just don't seem able to go the whole way. Alcohol can be dangerous in both small and large amounts and there is evidences that support these statements, but our health just does not always seem to be a major issue when taxes are involved.

The rate that alcohol has spread through our society is quite alarming really and long gone are the days that somebody could only purchase liquor in a liquor store and be seen leaving with their purchase discretely in a brown paper bag. Today alcohol is available in any store, club, hotel or sporting event and in certain countries you can now see kids out drinking in the street and they don't bother about hiding it in a brown paper bag. It is quite sad really how are society depends more and more on alcohol and unfortunately they are getting younger and younger every day.

Now with a simple trip to the grocery store, or at a stop to get gas at the local convenience store, an adult can make a legal purchase of anything from cans to bottles, cases and in some locations even kegs of whatever alcoholic beverages they may want.

What makes the situation even worse and that tries to convince us that alcohol is socially acceptable is advertising. Advertising methods are used to the limit not just to sell us the stuff but also to make us think that it will make us feel better, which is certainly not the case. You will find alcohol advertised anywhere from the cinema to our own television, so they mange to poison as many people as possible with their marketing lies.

The thing is that if our society is not able to show us that alcohol is bad for our health, at least they could stop the advertising of alcohol, so we don't see it as a cool pastime. At least if this form of advertising was cut out from sporting events it would be a start and why not promote the use of alcohol as unhealthy as a publicity campaign on the TV.

GM’s VP of Global Product Development, Jim Queen has told Motor Trend recently regarding their upcoming international car lines. He said that the automaker’s Australian RWD platform is going to be used as basis for both the Pontiac G8 and Chevy Camaro. General Motors is also reportedly contemplating on using the same platform for its next generation Cadillacs and of course since GM has already expressed its interest in creating environmentally friendly vehicles you can bet that a GM catalytic converter will be a part of the whole Caddy equation.

The only large RWD car that is not built on this platform is going to be used as the basis for the next Corvette and possibly for the XLR. Queen also said that the C7 Corvette will be equipped with a naturally aspirated V8 and RWD. In terms of power it is expected that C7 will have around 700 horsepower for the top end model. Queen has not commented on the possible selling price of the C7. But he did say, “We’re working hard to get the power onto the pavement,” further saying that weight and weight distribution are the keys.

Likewise, the twinning of Opel and Saturn will also continue. The freshly built Korean-Opel Antara has been recently launched in the European market and will later be introduced as the 2008 Saturn Vue as announced before at the Chicago Show.

The Saturn will also have body enhancements basing on the Europe-built compact, the Astra.--The three-door and five-door hatchbacks were previously unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show. The sedan and a coupe-cabrio called the TwinTop will make its transition to Saturns as part of the upcoming international car lines of GM.

GM's Vauxhall VXR8 Revealed
It was a really sad day for motoring enthusiasts in Britain when production of the Monaro was stopped. The Monaro is the only Australian-built car to reach the UK market. The Monaro became a hit in the UK for the very reason that it offered raw and exciting performance made possible by its 6.0 litre V8 and RWD set up.

The Monaro was taken off the market by Vauxhall in order to change it with a more powerful model, the Aussie muscle car VXR8. The new powerful saloon is powered by the same 6.0 litre V8 found on the Monaro however the VXR8 will have engine revisions to boost its efficiency. And with its new engine it is expected that the VXR8 will be able to deliver a potent 420PS and 550Nm of torque giving it the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a matter of 4.9 seconds.

The VXR8 also features practical and spacious boot, climate control, and leather trim. It also contains driving aid features such as stability system and traction control which are very easy to operate with its push button features. The VXR8 is also equipped with 365mm front disc brakes which slow down the car from 60 mph to a complete stop faster than the Lamborghini Murcielago or the BMW M5.

The VXR8 will also be the first VXR model that will have an automatic gearbox. And for an optional £1400 self-shifter the VXR8 will have a manual override and a sport setting which boost its performance. Satellite navigation and 20 inch wheels are also offered as options for those who prefer to set their VXR8 apart from the rest. And the best about the VXR8 is its price which will soon be announced by GM is around half the price of other cars with the same comparable performance.
