Ionic Air Purifiers – Is it all just hype? by Peter Clark

Ionic air purifiers have been hurtled into the spotlight with the advent of the Sharper Image air purifier, called the Ionic Breeze. Despite a round of advertising that has wearied rather than enthused consumers, many other manufacturers have joined the ionic air purifier market. So are ion air purifiers actually any good?

The main selling point of ionic air purifiers is the silence with which they are said to remove particles from the air. This is due to the lack of circulating fan in this type of air cleaner, as the Sharper Image air purifier, the original ionic cleaner, relies on electrostatic plates to circulate the air. Independent tests have shown, however, that this reliance is somewhat misplaced – while a fan-assisted air purifier can process a room’s air within one minute, this ionic air purifier has a turnover rate move only an estimated couple of cubic meters per hour.

Some ion air purifiers have added extra features to increase the effectiveness of their cleaning power. Some manufacturers have added negative ion capabilities, which claim to neutralize the potency of airborne particles without actually drawing them into the filter itself. The Sharper Image air purifier now comes with an OzoneGuard, which claims to convert a significant amount of dangerous ozone into oxygen, but this arguably is a relatively useless feature, as much of the dangerous ozone that might be in your home would be generated by a different kind of air purifier.

There is no doubt that ionic air purifiers do have some air cleaning capacity, but this is likely to be insufficient as to make a real difference to the quality of the air in your home, particularly if there is an allergy or asthma sufferer under your roof. While ion air purifiers might be better than nothing, you might be better advised to spend your hard earned money on an air purifier that has been tried and tested, and been proven to reliably remove a significant amount of airborne particles from the atmosphere in your home. The ionic air purifier is not this type of air cleaner.

Ionic air purifiers – are they worth buying or not? Maybe not.

How To Build Your Own Web Site For Your Online Business by Greg

Most everyone will agree, if you are going to do business online, you need your own web site. It can be a mini-site or a full blown multi-page site. These days, maybe you just need a blog as a web site. Find out what you need to know to build your own web site, get web hosting for that site and start your online business right.

If you are serious about sustaining a long term home based internet business, you should have a web site of your own. Having your own web site will give you much more flexibility on how you approach your online business as well as provide you with a means to give your web business a presence on the internet. Having this presence and making yourself known on the internet will improve the level of trust you will receive by your potential customers.
Having your own site may open up many possibilities that you could never have imagined. For the many who embark upon their own web site adventure, it becomes a learning experience with no equal.

Your web site will take on a personality of its own and be the front door to your online home business. You may see it as a very patient friend, waiting calmly for you to discover some little hidden function, which opens up a whole range of entirely new possibilities, and starts your thoughts racing - thinking about how to capitalize on that particular feature.

You may get a little careless, or get too relaxed with it, then bam! Right between the eyes - you end up with a big problem. But, building your own web site for your online business is fun, can be profitable, and most certainly can feed that creative flair in all of us.

The first thng to do when starting your web site is to pick a domain name. The domain name will be something like yoursite.com. A domain name should be researched carefully. Its best to have highly searched for keywords in the name. A neat and free tool to help you pick a domain name is The Domain Twist. There are many places to get domain names. I prefer Godaddy.com or Netfirms for domain name registration. Netfirms currenty has a promotion to receive a 1 year domain registration for $4.95.

You can also use Wordtracker's FREE trial to give you keyword ideas: http://wordtracker.com

Searching Google at http://www.google.com will give you an idea about competition for any particular keyword.

Use Overture's search box to find how many times your keyword was searched on last month:

Once you have a domain name you will need a web site hosting account to host the domain. Web hosting accounts vary significantly with disk space allowed, bandwith, number of supported domains, and other important considerations. Most annual hosing accounts that would be more than adequate to run your online business will cost between $6 - $10 per month. Currently, I recommend BlueHost and Host Gator web hosting accounts. Both have recently received performance awards and they have very competitive hosting plans for your web site. When selecting a web host, pay special attention and compare capability like PHP support, MySQL database allotment, subdomains, script support and others.

The next thing that you need to do is build your actual web site. I am not an html or javascript programmer per se, but I can do minor html programming/editing with a good editor. I like Coffee Cup or HTML Edit for small jobs and one page web site editing. You can also use a template to build your actual web pages. You can find them all over the internet for free.

http://www.ibdprince.com - has all kinds of webmaster goodies, including really great looking CSS templates.

http://www.diyminisite.com - templates and videos about mini site creation - click the 'not yet a member' link to join. It's FREE. Then go to the download area and pick what you need.

My absolute favorite for program for building web sites though is Killer SEO Site Builder. This is a PHP script that you install on your web host account. The script provides you with a real easy rich text html editor. It also has tons of features that optimize your site for the search engines.

Get a FREE copy of '7 days to Massive Web Site Traffic' at http://www.seoelite.com. It outlines the steps to a web page that can rank high in the search engines, and even goes beyond just your web pages, to tell you 'the rest of the story.' I thoroughly enjoyed it.

When you get ot the SEO Elite web site, scroll through the sales pitch, then close the page. The '7 Days' popup appears. It sounds like a lot of trouble, but believe me, it's worth it.

Don't load your site down with slow loading banners and images. Use low-res images that have been optimized for use on the web.

Write your web site page content, commonly referred to as copy, then play editor: write, hack, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite, until it is crisp, clear, to the point, and utterly understandable. Repeat your strongest point or benefit a number of times (at least three). Some people just don't get it the first time or two. Spread your text out a bit. Don't double space, but use very short paragraphs, and lots of headings with some space between the heading and the paragraph.

When you put together your web site, target your audience. Don't talk about network marketing to veterinarians. They may be interested in network marketing, but they probably got to your site via a search for a pet animal product and that's what they're looking for. When you know your target audience you can be sure not to speak (write) above their heads. Use words they will understand without Webster's help. You may get by with writing a little below their level, but never above it.

Keep your fonts constant throughout your site. Variety may be the 'spice of life' but can really look lousy on a web page. You can vary the size a bit, and throw in a little color, but stay conservative with the type style.

Know your target audience, and be sure not to speak (write) above their heads. Use words they will understand without Webster's help. You may get by with writing a little below their level, but never above it.

Highlight important selling words and phrases with bolding, italics, underlining, and color. Just don't overdo it.

Don't forget, purchases are never made on logic, but on emotion. Use copy that is designed to trigger an emotional response, such as a sense of loss, one of the strongest: 'If you wait, this offer may no longer be available at this price. Get it now at this ridiculously low price, and it's yours forever.'

Once you have your web site built you will need to upload it to your web site host (unless you are using KSEO Site Builder). A good and free FTP program to use for uploading and downloading to and from your host is SmartFTP. When you upload your site, you must upload the index.html file, any other linked HTML files, all the graphics files and any external CSS or Javascript files you may have created.

Once you are online focus on driving targeted traffic to your web site by writng articles, getting backlinks and Search Engine Optimization.

Scuba Diving At Grand Cayman Island's Stingray City by Clint Leung

One of the most famous natural attractions in Grand Cayman Island is Stingray City. This is an area in the ocean not far from the northern tip of Grand Cayman where tourists can get up close to hundreds of friendly stingrays. Stingray City can get quite crowded especially when the cruise ship passengers are at port. Fortunately for us scuba divers, the masses are taken to a shallower section of Stingray City where the sandbars are high enough for tourists to stand in waist deep waters. Scuba divers are taken by one of the many dive operators in Grand Cayman to the deeper part of Stingray City. However, this deeper section is still very much a shallow dive by scuba diving standards. In fact, Stingray City has been referred to in the scuba diving world as the best twelve foot or four metre dive in the world. It is believed that many years ago, sailors visiting the area threw fish remains overboard and soon noticed the stingrays coming for the free food. These particular stingrays became conditioned over the years to the humans and the food handouts unlike stingrays elsewhere in the Caribbean. If you have seen stingrays during dives elsewhere in the world, you will have noticed that they are usually quite shy and will swim away but not those here at Stingray City.

The dive boat took us to a designated site and indeed the depth was very shallow as we could easily see the bottom. The site itself was pretty barren with just the odd reef cluster around a mostly sandy bottom. The divemaster gave us a briefing on how to interact with the stingrays warning everyone that even though they will appear to be friendly, they should still be regarded as wild animals. We were told not to touch them by their razor sharp tails or abuse them in any manner. A bucket filled with squid parts was suspended in the water underneath the dive boat and this is where we fetched our supply of food to feed the stingrays.

As soon as we jumped in the water and made our descent to the bottom, we could see the first few stingrays coming towards us like UFOs. The divemasters showed us a trick where if we held the squid in our closed fists and moved our arms in wide circular arcs around us, we could make the stingrays follow our hands. It was sort of like teasing them for a bit before giving them their treats. Their mouths were located underneath their flat bodies and we were instructed to hold the food in our palms flat facing up when feeding them. The divemasters had demonstrated this on the boat using a little stuffed stingray toy during the briefing. With their keen sense of smell, the stingrays hovered towards and over the food to collect their squid snacks. It’s was incredible to see how fast they could stop in the water if they sensed food. They don’t have any teeth but have these two strong structures like vise grips in their mouths they use to chomp with. Feeding them sometimes felt like a vacuum cleaner sucking up debris on our palms. Sometimes, we felt their vise grip mouths close up against the flats of our palms. This is why we were advised to keep our palms as flat as possible in order to avoid them from closing up on our fingers. Because the eyes of the stingrays were on the top of their bodies, they couldn’t see our palms when they hovered directly over them. They would have to guess where our palms and the food were.

At one instance, I was holding on to the food a little too long in order to further tease one stingray. This one missed my palm and his jaw closed down on my forearm instead leaving me with a nice bruise. It was my fault since the stingray couldn’t see and thought that my forearm was my palm holding the squid. I was a bit careless and should have paid more attention to where the stingray’s mouth was. No other diver on our boat had any other problems or mishaps. Some of the stingrays although not aggressive, will be all over a diver if they still sense food but couldn’t find the palm. It was hilarious to watch some other divers pushed over on the sandy bottom by a stingray trying to find the squid. One large stingray even bumped me in the scuba mask but it was all fun. If the stingrays sense that a diver doesn’t have any food after awhile, they will go towards another diver that does.

The Stingray City dive is a single tank trip usually done in the afternoon. It is a unique dive that is worth doing but keep in mind that the stingrays are the main and usually the only attractions during this dive. There isn’t much else to see in terms of other marine life or coral reefs at the site so it would be advised to spend the morning doing some regular reef dives too in order to take in what Grand Cayman scuba diving has to offer.

Having Healthy Pups: A Few Tips On Keeping Your Dog Healthy by David Riewe

The responsibility of a new pet is sometimes overwhelming. One of your new duties as a dog owner is to take care of your pet's health. Here are two pointers for you to follow in taking care of your pet.

- The Veterinarian Is our Friend

Part of your duty as a dog owner is to know when to call for the vet. Don't take a 'wait and see' attitude when it comes to your pet's health. Sometimes, that approach is fine but most often professional help is needed to treat your dog's sickness. Depending on the dog's condition, there are many ways a veterinarian may help.

There are several instances when it is essential that you call your veterinarian:

a) Always call your vet when your dog has been in an accident. If your regular veterinarian is not available, look for the closest emergency vet clinic.

b) Always call your vet when you suspect your dog has eaten something that may be poisonous or something inedible.

c) Call your vet immediately when your pet is in obvious distress. Sudden weight gain or weight loss should be a warning sign for you to take your dog to the vet.

d) If your dog is coughing, vomiting or having seizure, call the vet immediately.

- An Ounce of Prevention Is Better Than A Pound Of Cure

Of course, going to the vet should be the last recourse. Preventing your dog from being hurt or getting sick is your primary responsibility.

Remember, that good food and a lot of exercise equates into a long life for your pet. A balanced diet and a regimen of exercise helps prevent sickness and strengthens your pet. Monitor what your pets eat. Clean your dog's cage regularly to get rid of any disease-causing bacteria. Check your dog's water supply. Make sure it's clean and healthy for your pet.

Keep your dog on a leash. Running in front of a car is not very good for your dog's health and heaven knows where your pet may end up if you just let it wander around.

Give your dog a regular bath. Fleas and ticks can give your dog extreme discomfort and are often carriers of disease.

Of course, keeping your dog in tip-top shape goes beyond these pointers. It's always advisable to ask a veterinarian for additional health tips and as your experience with your pet grows, you'll think up of a couple more rules that are special to your beloved hound. Just remember that when your pet's health is in question, it's always better to be safe!

Los Angeles by smgenie

LOS ANGELES a metropolis, which spans across a thousand square
miles of the great desert basin, mixed together with congested
freeways that run between the ocean and the mountains.

LA is still considered a young city. In the mid-nineteenth century, it
was a community of white American immigrants, poor Chinese
laborers, and wealthy Mexican ranchers, with a population of less
than fifty thousand. Definitely, a difference from what it is now. LA
is known for it shopping malls, palm trees, and swimming pools.
The celluloid self-image of Los Angeles is known all over the world.

The first-time visitor to Los Angeles may well find it to be thrilling
and threatening in equal proportions. It is a very fast-paced city
and it will pick you up and sweep you along whether you want it to
or not. While Los Angeles has many fine-art museums, California
cuisine and a few old-fashioned urban plazas, what people really
come here for is to experience the city that has come to epitomize
the American Dream. This is where teens come to try to become
actors and stars.

Recommendation for first time visitors is to visit places such as
Universal Studios, Mann's Chinese Theatre, Venice Beach
Boardwalk, Watt's Towers, Melrose Avenue, Rodeo Drive, Walt
Disney Concert Hall, and let us not forget about the amusement
parks such as Knott's Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, and Disneyland.

With all the entertainment available in Los Angeles, you are sure
to see a Celebrity or two while you are out and about. There are
many things to do in LA, how about just hanging out at the beach
and relaxing or surfing in the Pacific Ocean. Many things are within
driving distance from LA as well.

Check with your local travel agency for excellent packages to the
Los Angeles area.
