Xiangxiang, a panda born in captivity, is being released into the wild after three years of living in a simulated wilderness at the Woolong panda center.

Xiangxiang has been living in an enclosure that’s about 100,000 square feet large, and designed to simulate a panda’s natural environment. The hope of the re-introduction program is to increase the genetic diversity of the panda population in China.

Xiangxiang, (or Xiang Xiang, depending on which news source you believe) will be tracked by gps for the next two years.
