How to find the best niches in which to market a product, service or to create some niche articles that pull adsense ads like crazy?

When selling a product or service or just want to create niche articles to pull out profitable adsense ads, a lot of people make the mistake of developing their product, service or article first, and then trying to find a market for it. Of course, the process should be reversed.

First, find a market that spends money, then find out what they want and give it to them what they want. It is certainly easier said than done, but there are a lot of places online where you can do your market research for free.

They've done most of the work for you already. You just need to know where to go and what to do to connect all the dots. Let me show you some places I go through when I'm trying to brainstorm for ideas to find the best niche.

1. Finding HOT Topics (Hot Buzz):
   1. Read your newspaper, niche magazine, listen to radio, go to the bookstore to browse trough the magazines there.
   2. Google Zeitgeist: http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html
   3. Google Trend: http://www.google.com/trends , there’s lots of useful information here. You can see that the news volume is synced with the search volume, and several notable news articles are displayed, along with where they occurred on the timeline. You can see which countries, cities, and languages made the most searches. You can change the time period to track cyclic trend. And you can compare between two different niches also, just separate them with a comma.

   5. Yahoo! Buzz: http://buzz.yahoo.com
   6. AOL Hot Search: http://hotsearches.aol.com/
   7. Google Groups: http://groups.google.com/ , sort and look for high total members and high activity of the groups.

   9. Digg Popular Archive: http://www.digg.com/archive
   10. Technorati Popular: http://www.technorati.com/pop/
2. Finding HOT Sub Categories (sub niche):
   1. eBay Pulse: http://pulse.ebay.com, check the largest stores as well to see what they’re selling. There has to be a reason they are the largest stores. They must be doing something right.
   2. Shopping.com Top Search: http://www.shopping.com/top_searches
   3. AOL Shopping: http://shopping.aol.com/
   4. eBay Monthly PDF Report: http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/hotitems.pdf
3. Make sure that people spend money on that sub niche. Chances are, the more books, magazines or products there are created on that sub niche subject, the more that market spends on those topics. BUT, if there are WAY too many books, magazines or products returned, it means the niche is not targeted enough, it is too “main stream.”

   4. Check how many magazines there are on the subject of your chosen niche: http://www.magazines.com
4. Make sure that the niche is focused enough but big enough (the demand), and that the people in that niche spend money.
   1. Overture Resources Center: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch , then go to “Keyword Selector Tool”. Find there at least 10,000 searches for all keywords combined, but not more than, say, 50,000 or so. To measure the number of searches on Google, estimate between 5 and 10 times this number to come up with Google’s searches.
5. Estimates how much pay per clicks (PPC) are going to cost you on Google Adwords, make sure you won’t have to pay more than a dollar or two per click on average, but of course what you can profitably pay for PPC will depend on your product’s selling price and how many you can sell.
   1. Overture Resources Center: http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch , then go to “View Bids Tool”.  As a loose rule, if the max bid results are between 30 cents and $2.00, it’s a good indicator that people are making money in this market. Over $2.00 means that the competition is too fierce, but depending on your market, budget, ROI and eventual product selling price and demand, it may make sense for you.
6. If you plan to write an article that pulls adsense ads, of course what you’re looking for are some high keyword bids per click on average.

Now you’ve found a market that spends money, and found out what they want also. Finally, give to the market what they want!
