q        Say ‘Good Morning’ to your elders.

q        Say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ a lot.

q       Live beneath your means - do not overspend.

q       Treat everyone you meet as you want to be treated.

q       Make new friends, but cherish the old ones.

q       Don’t waste time learning the tricks of the trade. Instead, learn the trade.

q       Never cheat on others.

q       Be wise in the use of time. The question is not ‘How much time we have? but what shall we do with our time.

q       Value work but not any kind of work – Ask yourself : Is the work important or inspiring others, or helping the world.

q       Seek happiness each day. If you are not happy today, you will never be happy! Strive to be patient, unselfish, purposeful, strong, eager and work hard! If you do these things with a grateful heart, you would be happy.

q       Do not fear sorrow. Disappointment in life is inevitable.  Sorrow is given to us that having  felt, suffered, wept; we may be able to understand, appreciate,, love and cherish.

q       Instead of using the word problem, try substituting it with opportunity. If we have a problem, we get an opportunity to solve it and in solving the problem we can discover something.

q       Learn to forgive and don’t be afraid to say ‘sorry’.

q       Don’t expect life to be fair.

q       Never take action when you are angry.

q       Be willing to lose a battle in order to win a war.

q       When facing a difficult task , act as if it is impossible to fail.

Healthy Helpings (RD July 2003)

Kindness not only makes life sweeter, it may make it longer, according to the University of Michigan researchers. Stephanie Brown asked 423 older couples if they had helped a friend or neighbour just once in the previous year. Five years latter, those who had were 50% more likely to outlive those who hadn’t. “Research had shown that social contact is good for us but we always assumed the benefit came from being on the receiving end,” says Brown. We are not talking about donating a kidney -  just offering a lift could offer the life lenghtening benefits.

Age is meaningless with regards to our dreams

I bet at least one of you reading this is saying to your self that I am a bit off my rocker, right? Even so I still stand true to this belief. Rarely a day goes by that someone doesn't e-mail me about being surprised by the fact that I am only 26 (I am not really sure why it surprises people, but it does).

By the same token I have a friend that is many years older then me yet lives each day filled with the spirit of a teenager! Her zest for life seems to over flow. Being around my friend is a constant reminder that living and enjoying life is an ageless thing. My friend the way I see it we have a choice.

We can accept that we are to young to achieve our goals or we can simply go after them with all our hearts. By the same token we can say to ourselves we are too old to move towards our goals, or we can say "life has taught me that I can in fact achieve that which I set out after". The bottom line is simple. No matter what age we are there's no better time then now to set out after our dreams.
