The Origins of Biological and Chemical Warfare by Sam Vaknin

Chemical and biological warfare are not an invention of the 20th century.

Solon (638-559 BC) used a strong purgative, the herb hellebore, in the siege of Krissa. During the 6th century BC, the Assyrians poisoned enemy wells with rye ergot. In the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC), the Spartans flung sulfur and pitch at the Athenians and their allies. In the Middle Ages, besiegers used the bloated and dripping bodies of plague victims as readymade 'dirty bombs'.

In 1346, during its siege of Kaffa (present day Feodosia in Crimea), the Tartar army suffered an outbreak of the Plague. They hurled the corpses of their infected dead over the city walls and into the city's water wells. The resulting epidemic led to the city's surrender. It is widely believed that people afflicted with the horrendous disease fled the place and started the Black Death pandemic which consumed at least one third of Europe's population within a few years. Russian troops adopted the same tactic against Sweden in 1710.

Smallpox was another favorite. Francisco Pizarro (1476-1541) gave South American natives clothing items deliberately contaminated with the variola virus. During the French and Indian wars in North America (1689-1763), blankets used by smallpox victims were given to American Indians. General Jeffery Amherst (1717-1797) gifted Indians loyal to the French with smallpox-contaminated bedspreads during the French and Indian War of 1754 to 1767. An epidemic broke among the Native American defenders of Fort Carillon and they lost it to the English.

I could Really Love You

There's something right in front of me that I can't leave behind
It's always in my dreams and keeps on dancing in my mind
I don't know if I'll lose it just because of circumstance
Cause I could really love you if I only had the chance
I could make you happy and I'd chase away your fears
I could hold you close to me and wipe away your tears
And I could hold your heart and show you love that's pure and true
Cause I could really love you if you only loved me too

Your Intelligence – IQ, EQ Or SQ? by Max Wiseman

How often have we heard others talk about how ‘intelligent’ they consider someone to be? Intelligence is a description of how good someone is at mentally doing something. Intelligence involves thought. Intelligence includes the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language and to learn.

Do you consider yourself to be intelligent?

Schools and the education system would have us believe that we are only intelligent if we are able to solve complex abstract problems or remember facts and figures. I would agree that this is a type of intelligence and this type of intelligence is normally referred to as IQ or ‘intelligence quotient’ (a phrase coined by an American psychologist named Lewis Terman).

A small proportion of the population has a high IQ and they find the academic type of learning and activities in school relatively easy. But the vast majority of people don’t. So where does that leave everyone else?

Well, the good news is that IQ is not a measure of success. Most people with a high IQ do not go on to be as successful as their IQ score may lead us to believe. Most people with a high IQ take reasonably well paid, but routine, employment. Most are not happy with risk and rather limit their own success by becoming ‘comfortable’ and fall far short of what their potential suggests.

There is another type of intelligence that may be more important to success in life and this has been publicised by the best-selling book “Emotional Intelligence” (or EQ) by Daniel Goleman (although the term was first used several years earlier by two academics - Mayer and Salovey).

EQ has to do with recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. It defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; it determines the majority of our daily actions.

EQ is the capacity to create positive outcomes in our relationships with ourselves and others. These learnable skills create joy, love, and success of all kinds.

Studying EQ it becomes clear that IQ has less to do with success in life than EQ. The good news is that we all have EQ and that it can be developed. We can develop our EQ to help us build our relationships with others, to use our emotions appropriately, to focus our efforts and to become more successful in life.

EQ may be so important that it could be the best predictor of who will succeed in any area of life.

Can we look beyond IQ and EQ?

When you look at the world, do you see only space and time, mass and energy, logic and reason? Or do you also see connectivity and design, purpose and meaning, faith and mystery?

In his book “What’s your SQ?” Michael Guillen has developed the idea of ‘spiritual intelligence’ or SQ. SQ considers your views beyond the materialistic living of modern life. Without spirituality it is possible to become very unhappy or dissatisfied with life no matter how much material possessions we accumulate.

Can you be successful if you are not truly happy? I would argue not and that a balance of IQ, EQ and SQ are necessary for a happy and successful life.

Are there any other forms of intelligence? Yes, there is another important theory on multiple intelligences and you can read about that in another article.

To be happy and successful in life focus on your EQ and SQ. If you are fortunate enough to have some IQ too then all the better – but don’t rely on your IQ alone.

How To Get Out Of Credit Card Debt Much Faster & Save Lots Of Money – Without Filing For Bankruptcy! by Kris Bickell

The most important lesson I learned about getting out of debt is that you'll NEVER get out of debt playing by the rules of your creditors. No matter what they say, they really don't want you to get out of debt.

After all, the longer it takes you to pay off your debt, the more money they'll make.

So trust me, you’ll NEVER get out of debt by just making minimum payments. Or by paying ridiculously high interest rates...or by paying late fees, overlimit fees, or any other fees charged by your creditors.

How You Can Get Out Of Debt Faster, Too

So, how do you pay off your credit card bills...especially when money is REAL tight?

Work out an agreement with your creditors to pay off your credit card bills at a reduced amount. You'll be able to pay off your bills more quickly, and the credit card companies will get their money faster.

This process is called debt negotiation, or debt settlement.

Most people don't know this type of debt reduction is even an option - which is exactly what the creditors want you to think. (You'll also learn other strategies to help you get out of debt faster.)

But believe me, debt negotiation really does work.

Find Out If Debt Negotiation Is Right For You

Debt negotiation is a more aggressive approach to getting out of debt (usually, you must be behind on your payments to get the creditors to agree to a settlement), and is not necessarily right for everyone.

So make sure to ask lots of questions. And compare different programs. Then decide if it is right for you.

My only regret is that I did not find out about this option until I had already paid my credit card companies thousands of dollars in interest!

The most important point to remember is that you’ll NEVER get out of debt playing by the creditor’s rules.

So take a few minutes to find out how you can pay off your credit card bills faster, and save yourself LOTS OF MONEY at the same time.

If you're looking for a more traditional way to get out of debt, then debt consolidation may be the answer for you. You might not get out of debt as fast, but you still may be able to lower your interest rates and save yourself a bunch of money!

Successful Credit Cards For A Successful You! by David Riewe

There are tons of competing credit card companies around. For the consumer in you and me, separating the wheat from them tares among these companies will be quite an enormous task. What should one look for anyway when considering what credit card company to avail of?

As with most smart consumers, the key to finding the best credit card company is to stick with the best. Among the hundreds of credit card companies that exist, only about 10 to 20 can be considered truly successful. Identifying these companies will narrow down your choices to the select few credit cards that are worth applying for.

Here are some of the characteristics of successful credit card companies.

1) No Annual Fee – Some credit card companies are confident enough in their status that they do not need to collect annual fees. When you consider applying for a card, make sure you consider those that do not have annual fees first. Remember, if these companies that require annual fees are not content to make money off of the interest on your purchases, then they are not financially reliable to bank on. If the card you are looking at has annual fees, steer clear of them unless they offer some fantastic feature that you just can’t miss.

2) Extended Interest Days- Upon purchase of an item using your credit card, you will not be charged interest unless you are unable to pay before the set interest day deadline. The most successful credit card companies offer longer periods of grace. This means that you do no have to pay interest until that day comes. Often enough, the standard for this period is 25 days.

To avoid having to pay interest, you have to pay within 25 days after your billing statement. For large purchases that require numerous months to pay, you can swallow the interest for its sake.

3) Low Annual Percentage Rate – Some credit card companies offer low annual percentage rates. These companies can attract more customers because they have the financial clout to wag such a deal in front of consumers. Consumers will benefit from lower APR. Companies that offer lower APRs hint of larger consumer bases that make such offers possible.

If you plan to pay your balance on credit cards in full, the APR may not be much of a factor in your selection of a credit card.

4) Consult Feedbacks and Industry Profiles – most successful credit card companies are featured in business journals and other media. This will also give you an idea of who’s who in the credit card business.
