Wedding season is almost upon us again. Most people enjoy going to weddings but very few of them actually look forward to delivering a speech at the event. Whether you have been asked to give a reading at the ceremony or make a speech about one member of the happy couple, there are some things you can do to make the experience less nerve-wracking.

Prepare Your Speech in Advance

Start working on your wedding speech as soon as you agree to take on this task. Give yourself time to make several drafts, if necessary. Dont make the mistake of thinking that the right words will come to you on the Big Day. If you take the time to plan your speech in advance, you will be less nervous about speaking in front of a group of people.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Go over your speech a number of times until you feel comfortable delivering it. Some people find it helpful to practice delivering their speech in front of a mirror.

Another tip is to record your speech and listen to your delivery. That way, you can see whether you are speaking too quickly or too slowly. When delivering your wedding speech, try to keep your rate of speech constant; you dont want to be speeding up and/or slowing down.

Time Limit

About 3-5 minutes is considered a good length for a wedding speech. If you are nervous about speaking in front of a crowd, aim for about three minutes.
