Cisco owned WebEx announced the iPhone-optimized version of its remote desktop access service WebEx PCNow. Through a partnership with SoonR, the new service allows iPhone owners to access their desktops for search, Microsoft Outlook contacts, calendar, email and multiple types of documents. In addition — I guess also thanks to the partnership with SoonR — WebEx PCNow users can make and take VoIP calls via Skype. WebEx also finds important to note that their service is the first such solution to support both PC-to-PC and phone-to-PC access. Anyway, if this sounds compelling to you, you can try the service free for 30 days, after which you’ll need to pay $11.95 per month for two PCs. Native support for Mac OS X desktops is also coming later this year

Ladies and gentlemen we have it confirmed — Apple can trigger iPhone updates remotely (Knowledge Base article #306272). Natural question is - will this bring an end to the updates via iTunes? I don’t think so. It doesn’t sound logical that Apple would want its users to rely on EDGE connection to update their iPhones. Rather, Apple may use this feature for some small tweaks like the addition of “Send to Web Gallery” button. It’s also interesting to note how remote updates can basically kill all the iPhone unlocking schemes. As soon as the new trick for unlocking the device is revealed, Apple can issue an update that could block the iPhone or at least put it back to the original settings. Let’s look at the brighter side - Apple may add search or some other feature without notifying us. The Christmas is still few months away, yet I can easily imagine many iPhone users adding stuff on the Wishlist hoping that Jobs&Co will notice it and remotely update iPhones…
