My husband and I recently moved to a different city within the state we live in. My husband has casually attended alcoholics meetings for several years. The alcoholics meetings can be of great support; however it is crucial to find the one that will meet your particular needs. If the meetings are inconvenient in terms of time or location you will probably not benefit enough from them.
In my husbands case, we found that in our new community they had several different meeting times spread out within the week. My husband went to one meeting on a Monday night, but discovered that most of his peers were much younger than him. He did not feel that he would gain the support that he needed from this particular group. After the meeting he found a poster advertising that on Tuesdays a group of men over 50 met at the same location. He attended that meeting and instantly found the support and understanding that he had been accustomed to in the alcoholics meetings in our former community. There are multiple directories that list alcoholics meetings. There are also many ways of accessing the directories. Local newspapers, area churches and visitor information centers are just a few places to look out for the listings. Good news for computer users, many alcoholics meetings are listed on the websites of cities and communities. This will usually tell you the meeting times, locations and type of group. Alcoholics meetings are held in most communities. In the larger communities and cities the alcoholics meetings are often broken up into specialty or sub groups, for example meetings for men, women, smokers, non-smokers, gays or lesbians. There are a great number of subgroups for the alcoholics meetings, so if you have a specific interest area or need, you should be able to find just the right one. Or easily switch to another should you want to. Most communities also offer alcoholics meetings for adult children of alcoholics as well as for significant others that may be co-dependent. In smaller communities the groups may seem very tight knit and closed to new comers, however most meetings for alcoholics welcome new members at all times. Because alcoholics meetings tend to follow a similar agenda and beliefs it is possible to attend meetings in communities that you are visiting. Often times being away from home on vacation or at business meetings may be a time that is particularly difficult for the alcoholic to maintain sobriety, but most likely a meeting will be taking place in the community that you find yourself in. Do not miss that opportunity and let your wild drinking habits be let loose. Alcoholics meetings are not limited only to the United States. Several countries hold meetings on a regular basis, so attending alcoholic meetings when traveling abroad is a possible option. This is a great way of not only gaining the support you need while traveling, but also a way to establish relationships and make new friends around the world. Whether you are new to recovery, or have many years of sobriety, attendance at alcoholics meetings is a way of gaining support, giving support, and developing long term relationships with others whove suffered exactly what you are going through and want to extend a helping hand. You can emulate positive role models and learn how to rein in your persistent habits of drinking.
With today's hectic and fast paced lifestyles, it is easy to over tax the body, resulting in feelings of fatigue and perhaps depression. We run here, we run there, and most of us never stopping to realize what our daily routines are doing to our bodies. Naturally we dont invite stress in to our lives, but it has a way of just showing up.
Granted most people would like to slow down, and enjoy life a little more. But circumstances beyond are control prevents us from achieving a much desired peaceful existence. Work, jobs you name it all add up to stress. Here are some simple suggestions that one can make to alleviate not only fatigue, but help chase away the blues. To start chasing away those blues, enjoy some Chinese food, such as a Sweet and sour chicken, orange beef. Any Chinese food that has a wonderful tangy flavor is said to simulate the brain center that is responsible for joy. So if you are having a really bad day. Perhaps you should do Chinese for lunch? Treat yourself to a hot fudge sundae. The ice cream has loads of calcium plus folic acid, which have been proven to be mood elevators. The combination also boosts the production of serotonin, which is known to keep one happy for a longer period. When you add the dark chocolate, you add a cancer great tasting cancer fighter. The essence of orange and lemon peel, well known to have a substance called limonoids that has been proven (Texas A&M University study ) to be a cancer preventing property. Plus the peels of these citrus fruits are high in Vitamin C, which is known to aid in rejuvenating the body's immune system. So dont discard the peel, add it into your foods, or grate the peel and us as a topper, or sprinkle into your tea or soft drinks. Walks dont run. According to the research done at the Greece Aristotle University, walking is more likely to invigorate the body. Research shows that the high intensity of a run leaves one more likely to rest more after the run. Not actually fighting fatigue but adding to the level of fatigue. It is proven that a moderate walk as a rule invigorates, and adds to ones energy level, and lifts the spirits. Take time out to just sit and meditate. It is a very well know fact, even a short meditation can be very rejuvenating to the body and soul. Sit down and reminisce, by looking at family photos. You cant help but have wonderful feelings viewing past good times that have been capture in photos. A wonderful way to relax at bedtime, a relaxing bath, topped off by baby powder. Yes baby powder. Not only is the powder soothing. The sent is known to be very relaxing. And in some trigger wonderful childhood memories. If you want to feel peppy, get a massage. I am not talking about a costly Spa massage. This massage can be done just about anywhere. Ear massage; massage your entire ear with two fingers using just a light pressure. Yes it works; you will feel a good gust of pep. My last suggestion, take time to listen to your favorite music. When you are on that tedious drive home after work, get the crank out by cranking up the radio. Make sure it's at a volume you can feel. Dont be afraid to turn up the volume. Music has a way of banishes the blues, and chasing a way fatigue. Studies have shown, enjoying music increasing the amount of oxygen to the brain, hence more energy, and a better mood. Come through your door at night with a bit of pep, and a better attitude. You might find you have the energy for an evening stroll.

By small and simple things, great things are accomplished. No need to look for the magic software or the magic quick-fix that is expensive. Sometimes the smallest and simplest method will have a greater impact on your self-esteem that a $5000 seminar with Anthony Robbins. 1. Eat healthy food. People spend thousands and even millions of dollars trying to get in good shape and loose weight. And they fool themselves when they think that a particular diet or pill is the miracle. They fool themselves because they know these are only quick fixes (if it actually works) but they try them anyway, hoping that maybe, with some luck, it will last. First, eat 5 times a day, healthy and balanced meals. Get rid of sodas and drink water or nutritional shakes. I challenge you, for the next 30 days, to get rid of all the sodas you have in your house. Eat the same as you do but without soda. Youll be amazed at the simplicity of this method but just drinking water instead of soda or even milk at every meal will give you more energy and you will see a big difference in your waist. Second, exercise every day. Buy a gym center pass for $300 for the entire year. Im sure you spend more than that on soda during the year. Every morning, go to the gym, for no more than 20 minutes, and do some cardio or lift some weight. If you dont have the money to buy a pass (but you have to buy some soda every day), walk, run or do some abs and pushups at home. Dont underestimate what Im sharing with you now. Its huge because when you do that, you will feel good about yourself, you will have more energy to live your passion every day. If you have more energy, you will have better results and you will feel even better about yourself. This is how you increase your self-esteem, by doing the things you should do every day. 2. Dress correctly every day. Appearance is everything for a lot of people. For some, it is just a detail. I will tell you that the way you look will increase your self esteem. If you have a nice haircut, a nice pair of pants for men or a nice dress for women, if you have a nice shirt, nice, comfortable shoes, people will look up to you as someone different and accomplished, more accomplished than if you look like youre wearing pajamas. When you will look at yourself in the mirror, you will like what you see, more than if you have big, unkempt hair and go unshaven. The way you see yourself and the way people see and perceive you will have a great effect on how you feel about yourself. And whenever you feel good about yourself, you raise your self-esteem. 3. Smile. Professor Paul Ekman is very well known because of his expertise on facial expressions and emotional states. He concluded that smiling and laughing set off biological processes that, in fact, make us feel good. They increase the flow of blood to the brain and change the level of oxygen, the level of stimulation of the neurotransmitters. Smiling at yourself in a mirror, or at someone, will increase the positive feeling you have about yourself. When you sincerely smile at someone, you recognize his or her value and even if you dont say a word, the other person will automatically good about him or herself. And by the law of reciprocity, most people will return the smile and its your turn to feel good about yourself. These 3 small, simple methods can accomplish huge things for you and for others. The way you eat, the way you dress and the way you smile will increase or decrease the level of your self-esteem. No need to spend hundreds of dollars in clothes, in food supplement or diets, you already have all the resources you need to have high and healthy self-esteem.
