When I tell people that I am a professional writer they always assume I write for traditional print publications. When I tell them that in fact I write solely for the internet these days they always have one question: "Can you really make money online?" The answer is yes. You really can make money online.

I have been making a profit from my internet publishing since 1999 and I try to share the hard-won lessons that today shape my business decisions and bottom line. Yes, it is true that you can really make money with your own internet business but several warnings must go along with that statement.

The first and most important warning is that it is not fast. There are people making a good part-time or full-time income and there are some people becoming very wealthy doing business on the internet, but there are no overnight successes in in the ebusiness world. Some folks can quickly take an idea and turn a profit but that is because they are experienced internet entrepreneurs. Newcomers are not going to turn an overnight profit so do not go into expecting to make a quick buck.

The second caveat is that starting an internet enterprise is not easy. It does not necessarily need to be terribly difficult but it is not going to be as easy as buying some ready-made package or turn-key business and then waiting for the checks to pour in. You will have to research, process, and learn. You will have to spend time doing this and you will have to make some mistakes along the way. Depending on your level of expertise going in your learning curve may not be very great but you will need to allow time and energy for this process to work. I do not recommend buying into some pre-packaged program or service. It is often expensive and you are usually buying a pig in a poke that will not deliver as promised. You are much better off taking your own idea and building your own business from scratch. That way it will be yours, it will be less expensive, and you will be equipped and experienced to build and grow that business or develop a new one.

Finally, there is no sure path to success on the internet but there are thousands of ways to fail. Many of the people who fail were not given the two warnings above or they chose to ignore them. Many people throw a lot of time and money around without studying and learning. You can start a ebusiness for free or very little but it will take time to build it up and it will take time to make yourself into an internet entrepreneur. The more you study and learn then the more successful you can be when you translate those lessons into actions. Anyone can find success on the web but it takes time and effort.

Why The 'COSMETIC' Look of A Sales Letter Can Have Just As Much Impact as The Words! by Nick James

If you've ever watched a movie that gripped you with all the drama and excitement you could handle, did you ever think what the impact would be without the emotion, the lighting, the film score?

You see, a sales letter, or any other marketing document, is pretty much like a movie.

Dialogues alone won't do it. All the other 'side-show effects' are just as important.

How can a dull, monotone, complex looking sales letter, be transformed into a dramatic, compelling and entertaining piece of advertising copy, WITHOUT ALTERING ANY OF THE WORDS?

* Well, for a start, the beginning of each paragraph can be indented to 3-5 spaces. This breaks up the BLOCK effect, as done for this paragraph.

* Keeping the sentences short, sharp and punchy, ads a flow and continuation to the piece. It also gives a lot of 'eye-relief' to the reader.

* Underlining relevant and important parts that you specifically want the reader to 'get', breaks up the dense mass words, thus drawing the reader to want to know more of what's being said.

* Adding Bold and CAPITAL letters to certain words or even whole sentences, gives the piece a personality and makes it enjoyable for the reader to go through it.

*Differing font sizes also helps emphasise key elements of the communication. Its effect is similar to a change of TONALITY if we were actually speaking to each other.

*Highlighting certain areas of a marketing document, helps create drama, curiosity, interest. It also helps to change the look and 'feel' of the written communication.

*Changing font styles also creates a changing dialogue within the piece and moves it along at a slower or faster pace, thus encouraging the reader to keep alert, attentive and to keep on reading.

* Putting borders or frames around certain words, sentences or paragraphs, helps create attention and emphasises something important is being said.

*Using 1,2,3, Numbered lists, breaks up the use of continuous prose, and, it adds a value to the content order of the list.

* Using 'Bullets' add life to an otherwise mundane looking piece. Bullets create the impact of importance as well as giving an added zest to the flow of the piece.

*Scribbling hand written notes in the margins, or even within the paragraphs, helps give that certain 'authenticity' to the communication.

*Similarly, 'junking' up a sales letter or marketing document, adds a personal effect that just wouldn't be there with a straight, plain, lifeless looking piece.

By 'junking' I mean double underlining, maybe in colour. It could mean striking through certain words or sentences, and having it re-written up above. It could mean writing things, in bold felt tip pen, like " I can't believe I just did that!" when making an offer that seems so irresistible.

This 'junking' effect can now be easily created to website sales messages due to the enormous range of software that's available to duplicate this 'look'.

Of course, with all of the above, we need to ensure that we don't go over board and detract from the main message we wanted our audience to hear.

Though, the tighter our relationship we have with our audience, the more we can 'get away' with it all.

I know of someone who's used a simulated coffee cup stain on his sales letter, just to bring a little bit of realism and authenticity to his marketing messages.

Do You Really Want A Home Business, Or Do You Simply Want To Get Rich Quickly? by tkugler

This is a question that must be answered by anyone interested in making extra money or having their own business, whether that business be run out of their home or elsewhere. In my experience many people are actually interested in making money quickly with some sort of "opportunity" rather than having their own business. They are two entirely different things, and in actuality one of them isn't even real. I suppose you can guess which one isn't even real, but just in case you can't it's the idea of getting rich quickly doesn't exist. As a matter of fact It's a complete fallacy!

That's right, getting rich quickly isn't a reality (without engaging in something illegal that is). The funny thing about this little fact is that all of the weasels out there selling the next big "opportunity" claim exactly the opposite. These hype masters make their living convincing you that you can make money by doing almost nothing, and some will even claim that they will do most of the work for you. Honestly, when you really think about this, does it even sound like something that would be possible? They will do the work and you will make the money? Rubbish, getting rich or making money does not happen by you doing nothing.

If you are interested in getting rich quickly, I hope I've dissuaded you. If you're actually interested in having a home business, there are opportunities out there, just don't get into anything for the promise of getting rich quickly. The one piece of advise I have as someone who tried much of the crap floating around the home bases business toilet bowl, is the fact that your home based business must be based around something that you feel passionate about. If you're doing anything simply for the money you will eventually fail. You must have passion for your business.

The bottom line is that you need to answer the question posed by this article and proceed from there, because if you're chasing after something that doesn't exist you might as well not waste your time. If you're looking for a business of any kind to make you rich quickly you would be much better off looking for the pot of gold at the end of the next rainbow that you see.

In the world of business no voice should be heard clearer than the voice of your customers. A good business will keep tabs on what's being said about it's products, by both employees and customers. Knowing the thoughts and minds of consumers can prove invaluable. If you don't know why this is, let me list some reasons down below.

Reason 1: Happy customers, make loyal customers. Consumers like to know that businesses are listening to them. Not just their praise but also their criticism. Praise can make you feel bold and incapable of failure. But it's the criticism that can be worth more than a mountain of gold.

It's just not easy to hear critical remarks, but when you understand it's value, you utilize it, and in turn let your customers be heard. When they get the feeling that they are being heard, they are more likely to return and spend.

Reason 2: A loyal customer is priceless. A loyal customer doesn't just mean a repeat customer, it also means a great advertising force. Nothing has proven to be more effective in bringing new customers to a business, than the word of a friend or family member. Think of the last thing you purchased. Something you were once skeptical of, but you ended up buying anyway. What was the reason for this purchase? Most likely it was a friend who gave you the final persuasive push.

Make a customer feel like he is king, and not only will he return, but there is also a good chance he'll bring someone with him.

Reason 3: Tapping into the mind of your consumers can allow you to fine tweak your products. In doing so you'll be giving the consumer exactly what he wants, making him a very happy and satisfied customer.

However, tapping into the mind of the consumer can be a delicate task. If approached the wrong way, an inquiry can annoy and irritate your customers. It's kind of like performing brain surgery. Moving the tools around in a brutish fashion will, in the end, cause the loss of the patient. Once again the same rules apply to an angry customer that apply to a happy customers. While a happy customer will bring you more customers, an angry customer will turn them away.

There is a restaurant in town that I have never visited and that I vehemently refuse to go to. If you were to ask me the reason for my disgust, I wouldn't be able to tell you. I could only say that I once heard a terrible thing about the place from someone I trusted.

Reason 4: Your customers know more about your business than you do. They may not know all the details of how to run your business, but they know what it is that they do and don't like about it. What businessman wouldn't pay a substantial amount of money to know what was going on in the mind of his customers. If he knew this he would know his business. He would know what his business really is and what it should become.

Reason 5: The customer is your bottom line, it just makes sense to listen to what he is saying about your product, policy, or practice. Ignoring the consumer is just like burying your head in the sand. The truth is rarely flattering, but it's the truth and it's what you need to hear.

I know I haven't listed any fresh Ideas, but sometimes it's good to cover the basics one more time. Just like working on your free throws when you were in high school. Practicing the basics is just as important as everything else listed above.
