Creating Music & Beats Through the Song of Life by
Rooket MediaPercussion is the oldest form of music known to man. From the primeval beat of the human heart to the archaic animal skin drums of our ancestors, the primal beat of the drum stirs something ancient within our souls which can urge us on to dance, groove, or psyche us up to perform extraordinary feats.
The most archaic use of rhythm was to send our ancestors into a trance in order to procure a vision or reach a state of poetical flow to recite stories of tribal lore and tales of life and to communicate over long distances between tribes. Not much has changed over the ages. Although beats are now heard behind more modern and complicated instruments and covered with sonic production qualities from recording studios they have still maintained the same basic qualities and serve the same basic functions, to put us into a trance and achieve a poetical flow and to communicate over long distances. The poetical flow now takes the form of rap or singing, and the tales of life and “tribal lore" form the lyrics. Long distance communication involves sending CD’s over the world. But at the beating heart of the matter it’s still the same as it was in the jungle.
So how can you use this information to create beats of your own?
Well keep in mind the basic fact that the beat is used to create a mood and feeling in the listener which will convey the emotion of the musicians. The art of percussion is the art of manipulating time. The rhythm of life is a powerful beat! Basically what you are trying to communicate through a beat is little pieces of transmitted life. As such, you have to capture life within you so that you can transmit it out through your music. The only way to do this is to get out there! Experience life! Get yourself into as many real life situations as you can. Note how you feel, observe the beating of your heart when you are excited, when you are sad, when you are scared, when you are relaxed, and when you are happy.
Great musicians have the ability to create these same feelings in their listeners through their music. Take your time! As a percussionist you form the back bone of the song. As such, the soul that you put into your beat is going to radiate throughout the whole song. If the same vibe is flowing through all the musicians the music will come out flowing naturally. If there is disparate clashes of ego through out the band perhaps it is time to regroup. Strongly opposite emotions are like to create clash within the music. Although sometimes this clash is the basis for the greatest music! Basically the soundest advice is to put soul and life into your beats. These aspects radiate universally throughout the music into peoples hearts no matter what your level of technicality is.

Music Helps Heal Political Woes by
Daniel KobialkaNot long ago, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra was touring in Asia and was invited to perform in North Korea. At the time, this seemed quite unusual and potentially politically healing, from what I understood about our relations with that country.
President Bush had called North Korea part of the “Axis of Evil”. This of course insulted many North Koreans and the United States was subsequently identified by North Korea’s leader as evil. North Korea and the United States were technically “at war”.
Knowing that Kim Jong-il, the tight-handed dictator in power in North Korea, had never allowed himself to be interviewed and had never met with any American politically higher than the U.S. Secretary of State, I was amazed that he was allowing his country to host so much American "propaganda".
There is only one television channel in the country, and only 10% of the population own television sets. The Western world is effectively kept at bay.
So an American orchestra being invited into North Korea had huge political implications. There is no doubt that for many people, this was their first experience of Western music.
Then I learned of deeper implications, and even after-effects, of this window to the Western world. Music is very much loved in North Korean culture, but has, like everything else, been molded by the all-pervasive “cult of personality” around Kim Jong-il. The only music allowed is music which either glorifies him personally, or Communism in general.
North Koreans have been arrested, tortured and kept in prison for years for simply playing, singing, or performing forbidden music, even if they did so only in their own homes.
Imagine what passed through these people’s minds as they watched the Philharmonic’s performance! Should they show emotion? Would their names be taken down? Defectors from North Korea to other countries watched in amazement.
The orchestra members commented on how moved they were by the audience’s reaction, saying that they are used to giving and sharing of themselves during a performance, but never before had gotten so much back. The audience’s reaction wasn’t immediate, but gradually smiles appeared. After playing the U.S. National Anthem and a beloved Korean folk tune, the audience responded and the orchestra hated to leave the stage.
But even more happened after that. There have been political concessions made, there is talk of destroying a nuclear power silo in exchange for…taking back the designation of North Korea as part of the Axis of Evil.
Hearts softened, minds opened, all because two angry nations took a chance on something a little less frightening than nuclear annihilation: sharing their love of music.
Come hear free samples of the healing music of Daniel Kobialka, sought after around the world as a speaker, composer and performer. Listen to
music that relaxes and heals from the virtuoso violinist who performed as primary second violin with the San Francisco Symphony for decades.

Origins of the Mathers Family
By Isabelle Esling
Eminem?s roots can be found in Scandinavia through his mother Debbie Nelson and in South Wales through his father Marshall Bruce Mathers II.
But Eminem has mostly Scottish blood running through his veins. On both sides( maternal and paternal sides), Scottish roots can be found.
Back to the 7 th generation on the paternal side, Peter Mathers from Pennsylvania married a Scottish woman named Isabella (last name unknown). On the maternal side, Scottish roots can be found in Marshall?s family in the 6 th generation : Ailsa Mc Allister from Edingburgh emigrated to the United States ?precisely to New York in 1870.
Most of the Mathers have been working as farmers in the state of Missouri.
Marshall Mathers I, Eminem?s paternal grandfather has been working as an assistant hotel manager at Plainsman Hotel in st Joseph Missouri and his wife Rae has been employed at Del Cornonado hotel in guest services.
When Eminem?s paternal grandmother Rae died recently in 2002 from an Alzheimer desease , Marshall Mathers II discovered interesting documents related to his famous son like a Christmas card from Marshall addressed to his grandmother Rae.
Ethymology of the name Mathers
