Dogue Stories: Origins Of The Dog De Bordeux by Rick London Since everyone fell in love with the large slobbering dog (Dogue de Bordeaux) in "Starsky And Hutch" America has finally fallen for this huge territorial four-legged beauty, but nobod is quite sure from where it derived. Some historians are certain it derived from the Bulldog and several other breeds somewhere in France, others are certain it was ancient Tibet, and still others ancient Rome during Julius Caesar's rule. There is archeological evidence that a dog of nearly identical looks resided there at the time. The most popular theory is that the Dogue originated in ancient France and lived mostly in the city of Aqitine. Only one thing Dogue experts agree upon is that all these similar breeds share the same gene-link as all 21st century Molossers. Unlike today, most Dogues had a very different look and feel to them. Because of this, they were placed into three varieties, the Parisian, the Tolouse and the Bordeaux. The labeling depending on not only their look and feel, but goeographic location and (believe it or not) "work ethic". The Dogue is a working ones and different owners in different parts of France had different chores and assignments for his four-legged assistant. The only two things they seemed to have in common was their huge size, sometimes as big as a small horse, and white markings which ran up their legs, in spite of their usually-bringle bodies. The origin of today's Dogue de Bordeaux is from Paris, France, where, at the Jardin d'Acclimatation, a bitch named "Magentas" came in first. So this breed was named after that region of France "Bordeaux". Most of my followers, who have read me over the past decade are aware of my affection for dogs (and cats), and I've owned both since I was a toddler, but tended to favor dogs as I got a bit older. I never owned a Dogue de Bordeaux, but felt a bond with every one I'd met. They are gentle bears, though certainly are not bred to be. As a cartoonist, before I create a cartoon involving any certain breed, I research that breed the best I can so the result would be how the animal would probably behave in any given situation. I remember researching the fascinating Dogue de Bordeaux (also known as Dogue or French Mastiff). The above article is only part one of a longer one I wrote about this fascinating breed. I instinctively felt that one day, that if I ever opened my cartoon stores which I eventually did, ricklondoncollection.com and LTSuperstore.com, animal-overs would snatch up these items. I can't say that all my dreams came true, but they are best-sellers, and oddly enough, my Dogue de Bordeaux comic products sell as well as the more popular brands such as poodles and German Shepherds. And the big dream was to be certain a percentage of sales of all our pet-related merchandise goes to benefit various animal causes which has become a reality. Even our cartoon designer clothing line does well at ricklondonwear.com and a percentage of all pet-related cartoon sales benefits pet education given by various dog and cat education non-profits corporations. I mention this because I encourage others to find their passion, whether it be animals or sewingt and take it to the Internet. Find others with similar interests. Different people have different experiences with this. For me, it was no neon light but a very gradual thing. I know it sounds like a cliche' but If I can do it, but ifI can do it, anyone can. When I hear of animals that got help, due to our work, I get chills every time. When I hear of a classroom learning about spaying and neutering, I get goosebumpts. I believe that our pets are true gifts from God, and he shows us through them how to "love thy neighobor. I never understood that before, with my other dogs, nd cats, before "Thor". Though I had always owned pets, I always was away at work or school. When I got home at the end of the day, if I had enough energy to pet them on the head and remember their names, they were lucky. Thor was the first dog I owned while working at home, He became my shadow. Though admittedly a cared for him for a very long time, he, no doubt, saved my life many times (but that is a whole other story whihc I do plan to write). He only died less than a week ago and am still in mourning. But he was my inspiration when I had writer's block, and he taught me to love myself and others, unconditionally. He was "only a dog" and I'm "only human" and he was the mentor, I but a nubile student. Pet Identification Pet identification is highly required in these days because of the need for the licensing of the dog in a proper manner and to reduce the numbers of the stray dog menace in streets. Pet identification is done by many methods, which are different from each other. The cost factor for that also has variations accordingly. The identification of your pet may be done by personalized tags, some times by the municipal license tag, rabies tag, and more. Most of the time, your telephone number and your name will be on a place in the personalized tags of the dogs. If any body encounters the dog accidentally during the event of missing of the dog will become capable of reporting the facts to the concerned officials. Plastic and metal pet identification tags are available in multiple colors and the dog owners can choose the color they want. However, many select the reflective type of dog tags along with the collars. Hence, the dogs can be identified even in darkness to a greater extent. Nowadays, many electronic gadgets are available like microchips which are embedded into the dog. However, these kinds of electronic chips need to be implanted behind the ears and once implanted, this will reveal all the data embedded in this in the computer. A collard and tagged animal makes an indication that it is not a stray animal and this gives more security to the dog. Traditional forms of identification of the animal like tattooing is now a day not carried in dogs. Thus tracing the missed animal will become easier for the pet owners mainly due to the identification-based dog collars.

When did you last see a cat on a leash? If your answer is everything I think it will be, it’s understandable because most cats refuse this kind of "treatment". This is exactly why patience is the first crucial factor. It is obvious that the cat will not take such a suggestion without some kind of argument. Anyway, if we are talking about an apartment cat, we can say it is important for it to get used to the idea that it is not imperative that once out of the house something bad is going to happen. Use your imagination and first build a surrounded space for your cat. And don’t forget that the cat would be really happy to climb something. High plants or low trees can be an attraction to your cat. Buy a collar for the cat and try to get her used to it. It is important that it would be worn just around the house at first. The same thing needs to be done with the leash. After a few days, encourage her by walking short distances on the leash, tempting her with a toy or some food. Then get out of the house for short walks. Increase distance one day at a time. Pick quiet places and make sure she got used to the outside street noise. If you really want to make her walk on a leash, then try to get her with you when you are going shopping or on longer walks. In time you can make her accept routes with intense traffic, but it is important for her to feel safe and to understand that she can rely on you. And if she wants to run around a little, make sure the collar isn’t too rigid. You can even place a bell on her collar to find her easier in case she escapes or hides behind a bush. It will stop her from hunting, but take the bright side of this suggestion. You can find your cat even if somehow she runs away or escapes from the collar.
Many of us cat owners are of the belief that our cat would never go out on hunting, especially since it is loved to the extent of being spoilt and obviously very well fed. Why then, should it bother about birds and mice. Well, it is a cat after all, and a hunter is a part of the cat’s psyche and instinct. Cats by nature seem lazy and tend to sleep sixty percent of the time by my estimates. But on shrewd observation you will realize that a cat uses a lot of energy in short bursts and sleeps to recuperate itself. If one gets to see the hunting process of a cat, it is very similar to its big brothers of the same genus i.e. the big cats viz. lions, tigers, cheetah, leopard etc. It uses its front legs and claws to hit the prey and tries to dig its teeth into the victim’s neck. Cats are opportunistic hunters. They hunt birds in the daytime and leave the rodents alone and vice versa at night. They also teach their children (kittens) the fine art of hunting, lest evolution take its toll. Kittens are born with the hunter’s instinct but the skills are honed by their mothers. and the Hunted Losing your cat is a very worrying experience, for that matter losing any of your pets is. Cats usually do not run away from home, its just that their curiosity gets better of them, sometimes. The first place we should search is our own home, wherein it could hide may be in all the rooms, empty buckets, wardrobes, refrigerators, clothes dryers, washing machines, basements, garage, attics. Keep calling the name, although it might not respond all the time. Next its time to move on outdoors to the bushes in the garden, trees. Look in every possible space it could crawl into. Check with immediate neighbors in all four directions and request them to do the same. Still not found, time to call in the army. Try recruiting neighborhood children who are old enough to help you search for the cat. If this fails you will have to talk to people who frequent the neighborhood and show them a photograph of your cat and ask for help. Remember, never search for a lost cat at night alone. Finally don’t lose hope on it, keep searching the same places periodically, don’t blame the world for your lost cat and you will see that your cat will return to you if not today then tomorrow certainly. Cats are known to have come back home after a long holiday of a few months at a stretch. Lets suppose on your lucky day, you get a call saying that your cat has been found. In these cases exercise due caution and diligence and remember the following : There are dangerous people in our society who prey upon victims by using "found" pets as a ploy. NEVER respond to a "found" cat contact alone. Take a couple of friends along with you. Arrange the meeting in a public place. NEVER invite the person home unless you happen to know them very well. Beware of money scams, like a trucker calling you to tell that he found your cat and has it. But since he is out of state he wants you to pay shipping so that he could return your cat. This person does not have your cat, he is only trying to make money at your expense. Never give out all identification information about your cat. If the person who claims to have found your cat cannot describe these features to you, you know the scam..! More and related info on this can be found at http://www.petbuz.com
