Snakes in Bangkok

Thailand is home to many friendly snakes. At the Red Cross Research Institute in Bangkok, there is a snake farm where venomous snakes are kept for the purpose of producing anti-venom. For a couple buck, you can get up close and personal with a variety of poisonous snakes, including the Common Cobra, King Cobra, and an assortment of Kraits and Pit Vipers. You'll watch the handlers 'play' with the snakes, and then feed them and milk them for venom. A couple of the handlers have wicked-looking scars, thanks to the snakes, as well as some witty anecdotes that accompany the scars. It is interesting, and somewhat educational. I'm very sad to hear that Steve has passed on. He was an eccentric and immensely entertaining man who was soley devoted to bringing to the public an understanding, respect and appreciation for the many creatures that share the planet with us, an endeavor he successfully accomplished in his years. He obviously loved what he did, loved those that made it possible for him (primarily his wife), and loved the fans that appreciated his work. It was a tragic circumstance that led to his death, but it was a risk he recognized and gladly took in exchange for a chance to share his adventures with the world. I never saw anyone take to the nature filming and narrating with such a passion like Steve. Thank you, Steve, for many hours of entertainment.R.I.P Steve.
