Funny Cartoons Through The Ages

Throughout the ages, funny cartoons have continued to make people smile. Comical works or funny images have been found on cave walls as well suggesting that funny cartoons were drawn even in those times. It can be said that ever since man learnt to draw or write, he has been expressing his thoughts on various mediums. Then he found a great tool in funny cartoons to express the humor in his mind. People simply loved funny cartoons and often indulged in discussing the nuances of these images.

The Press

When the printing press was invented in the 15th century, people were simply drawn to it in huge numbers. Then the press was used to distribute funny cartoons. There were funny cartoons in every edition of a newspaper and this soon became one of the best ways for cartoonists to project their talent. Soon funny cartoons were used to propagate various messages. Very often an image had a hidden message in it which was made obvious by the whacky design and depiction.

Inspiration from Real Life

Very soon, cartoonists started to seek inspiration from real life and real life characters. Queens, kings, politicians etc were constantly used in funny cartoons and the common man had found a new way to be amused.

The 1900’s
The 1900’s can be termed as the golden age for funny cartoons. The rise of cartoons as a medium of entertainment began in the 19th century with motion pictures gaining popularity. A string of cartoon characters were created and they became extremely popular. Walt Disney, Hanna Barbara etc were pioneers in creating cartoon characters that became icons over a period of time. Be it any medium, TV or print, funny cartoons continue to attract millions across the world even now.
