I have seen the preview for the movie The Strangers and I truely believe it will be way too scary for me. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it that much more real. However when I go to look up the actual true story I get stumped. I know that supposedly it happened at 1801 Clark Rd ( city town unknown) To possibly a family named the Hoyts.I have done yahoo searches, google, and also wikipedia and pretty much that is all the information I can come up with.

True stories fascinate me and I know I am not the only one looking for this because in some of the places I have looked people are asking the same question. So if anyone knows can you fill me in. Or post a link so that I can find out if indeed this movie is based on a true story, or if they are really just sensationalizing it. Any help is appreciated.

Comment by deodato Jun. 24,2008 The movie is inspired by an event from the director's, Bryan Bertino, childhood, among other things. A stranger came to his home asking for someone. Later, he found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been robbed. With that memory in mind, Bertino created this, his debut screenplay. The screenplay is also inspired by the events of the Charles Manson murders. That last thing I would call this movie is 'Based on a true story' or even inspired. obviously just a marketing gimmick.
