I recently received and email from another Flixya user (corinaray) with a question they wanted me to answer. I thought I would post my response here on this blog in case it can be of help to others:

ive recently joined flixya and have uploaded some really popular videos till now.
i haven't quite got the no. of views i expected.. Since you are one of the top user here, can you tell me what makes videos popular here or what kind of videos catch flixya user's attention most?

The best way of finding out what makes a popular video is to keep an eye on the most viewed and highest rated video sections on the Flixya site.

If you want to increase your number of viewers though you will have to do more than just upload good video. You will need to write blog posts, upload photos, create collections and network with other users. But most importantly you will need to promote your Flixya site in other places, such as you blog, myspace, facebook and maybe even send out an email to your friends (But that may be a bit to much like spamming them). This is a very important step because if the only people who know about your site are other Flixya users you will not increase your viewers by much, even if you upload great videos.

Part of the reason I have so many views is that my Flixya portal is just a small part of my online video world. My friends and I create our own videos and we have our own website (www.BecauseWeCan.TV) that get's a few thousand hits a month. We have a link on that site to my Flixya portal and that really helps to drive traffic to our Flixya portal. So if you want to increase your viewers you really need to look at your Flixya portal as a product that needs to be marketed. all the links to my Flixya portal that I place on other sites are simply advertisements for my Flixya portal. The more places I can find to advertise my portal, the more popular it will be.
