The world is getting smaller every day and as it does, the number of English speaking people are shrinking. This doesn't mean that English will lose its place as the world's primary language but experts agree that it will be joined by a number of equal partners including but not limited to Chinese and Spanish. By adding a new language to your resume you not only improve your credentials, you increase your opportunities.

Increase your intelligence. Studies also show that learning another language enhances the academic skills of students by increasing their abilities in reading, writing, and mathematics. But it doesn’t stop there. Learning a new language broadens your horizons and enables you to explore other cultures. Additionally, being able to converse in another language opens up a world of knowledge relating to a country’s history, political culture, social culture, and role in the world. This knowledge and perspective, the knowledge and perspective of another culture, may change your perspective on the world.

It’s just plain fun! Have you ever wanted to converse with someone and you weren’t able to? Maybe a relative has interesting stories to share but you’re unable to understand them. What about that extremely attractive person that you see at the coffee shop every morning? A quick way to impress him or her is to walk up and start a conversation, in their language. Neither one of those scenarios fit the bill? What about the fact that learning a new language will undoubtedly introduce you to a whole new assortment of friends and associates. You’ll meet people that are learning the language just like you and you’ll meet native speakers that have experiences and joys to share.

Come to think of it, there really isn’t a good reason to not learn a new language. When language courses and programs are so readily accessible why wouldn’t you open up a whole new world of experiences, opportunities, and friendships?
