Will Spark Electric Car Sales

The Mitsubishi iMiEV Electric Car with 100 mile driving range will motorvate American drivers to "Plug-In" an Electric Car in their garages.

The 4-door, 4 seater weighs 2,380 pounds and uses a 16 kWh Lithium-Ion battery and is projected to sell for $31,000 when it is sold in the United States.

The Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle motors are constructed using an in-wheel motor rotor, directly behind the brakes. Locating the motor behind the wheel allows for a four wheel drive system without need of transmission, drive shafts or differential gear for a considerable weight and space savings that can allow for more battery cells, increasing the driving range.

The in-wheel drive system also eliminates the "transmission hump" and creates a flat interior floor.

the iMiEv has a two-position gear selector, "Drive" or "Eco"; modes for acceleration up hills or highway cruising. The iMiEV can reach 60 miles per hour in under 9 seconds and hit a top speed of 82 mph for passing (although this intense use of the battery's limited power will decrease the cars travel range.)

The "Eco" mode drops the horsepower by 30 percent extending the cruising range, without using the air conditioning to an average of 60 miles without needing a recharge.

The usual engine RPM tachometer is replaced by a meter that indicates the charge status of the battery and the discharge rate.

The Cap and Trade Bill in the US Senate has provisions that will encourage more Electric Cars to be sold, Click "Think Electricity" Link Below:
