There are many conditions that can cause tinnitus. It may come as a surprise therefor to learn that prescription drugs can actually cause tinnitus. Picture this, you visit the doctor to get some relief for depression or anxiety, you are given a prescription to help and the next thing you know, your ears start ringing like crazy.
Sound far fetched? It isn't! In fact the pharmaceutical companies list tinnitus as a side effect on many medications, but some doctors still prescribe the medication without warning you of the possible side effects the drugs could cause.
Often, the medications you are taking for another condition could be causing your current ringing in the ears or similar sounds. If you already have tinnitus, don't be too quick to assume that it must be due to the current medications you are taking. Stop first and try to remember if you had the tinnitus before starting the medication. It could be that something else caused the tinnitus and the medications you are now taking is making it worse.
