I recall one recent fishing trip with my younger brother.  He carries with him three fishing poles  and a tackle box full of all types of lures (crankbait, topwater bait, spinners and plastic worms).   As for me I had with me one fishing pole and a ziplock bag worm sinkers, hooks and a package of white/metal flakes senkos.  We were riding down the lakes to look for spot to fish.  I saw another just getting ready to leave this cove and we were approaching it so I told my brother that would be a good a place as any to start.   He was skeptical since the spot we are going to fish was just being covered by another angler.    It was a beautiful sunrise with a slight breeze so I change my rig to weightless and senko is my weapon of choice.  In the meanwhile, my brother had been throwing spinnerbait.   After his fourth cast, I proceed to cast right into the spot where he was casting.   Lo and Behold, a 4lbs bass attack my senko and jump right out of the water.  Got him to the boat and release and rerig for another cast.   About half way to the boat my lines was running sideway, I do just what any angler would do, I set the hook.  Another 2lbs bass hitting my lure.   Now my brother’s curiosity got the better of him and started asking questions.  I clue him in on this book I have been  reading.  It give me the confident to chose the right lure and the technic on how to read the surroundings.  If the weather as a little rough I would still use the senko I have, but I would fish bounce it along the bottom.   We were out of about 3 hours and my count was 14 catch and release.  My brother has 8, he would have caught more if he switch to a senko sooner.   From my years of experience, it doesn’t matter what kind of lure you use, if you’re not comfortable with it you’re probably not going to be any successful with it.  After all you can’t catch anything with a dry lure.  For more information on the book I was using, checkout my link below.  Have fun fishing.
