Tisca is Enjoying The Variety
| Tisca is Enjoying The Variety | | | | | | | You are back in Bollywood in a big way now...
I don’t know about being back in Bollywood, but yes, I’ve been lucky enough to be in one of the year’s most awaited releases Taare Zameen Par. It’s such a fabulous story and everyone connected with the film has given their heart and soul to it. My own role is really challenging and gives me an opportunity to explore such a range of emotions. I am very happy with how it has all turned out.
A few years ago you made your debut as heroine opposite Ajay Devgan. What went wrong after that?
Mostly I would say that I was not prepared. Also the kind of cinema that was being offered to me was not really my cup of tea. I am so happy to now be doing exactly the kind of work I want. In the interim, I put my entire soul into bettering my craft as an actor. It feels great to have that acknowledged.
What are the changes you see in Hindi cinema since your debut film?
These are very exciting times... unconventional scripts, a new level of professionalism and investment in cinema from the biggest corporate houses. This allows for the possibility of more experimentation in terms of narratives and style. We have to now not be anxious about women-centered stories and, of course, make our presence felt on the global scene beyond the Indian Diaspora.
What about casting couch that’s often spoken of in the industry?
People will behave with you the way you want them to. Ultimately everyone makes their own choices. As far as I am concerned the only couch I know is the one I bought for my living room!
Who are your favourite actors?
There are so many interesting actors and it is very difficult to choose... Aamir of course, also Saif, Akshay Kumar, Irrfan and Konkona. I find Deepika Padukone very pretty.
What’s the real Tisca like?
It’s very difficult to reduce oneself to a ‘soundbyte.’ As an actor one is always exploring facets of oneself, exposing one’s vulnerability, one’s strengths, it’s about journeys, not destinations. I hope I am still evolving and therefore cannot have a ‘real’ me to talk about. Maybe friends and family can answer this question better.
What after Taare Zameen Par?
Everyone is looking forward to seeing Aamir’s directorial debut. The buzz is that TZP looks fresh and exciting. After TZP, I am doing Nandita Das’ directorial debut. I am currently rehearsing a very interesting play. I am also co-writing a script with a friend. I am enjoying the variety that there is in my professional life at the moment. Not a moment of boredom.
