St. Petersburg, Hermitage Museum: coats of arms on Porcellane Russe until 29 March 2009
In addition to permanent exhibitions, the Hermitage also hosts temporary exhibitions, and we recommend Idea as holidays go to the museum from December 23 to March 29 where you can visit the exhibition "heraldic Stemmi on Russian porcelain." The exhibition will include approximately 250 pieces, vases, plates, cups and so on, all produced in the Imperial Porcelain Factory "and other private establishments Russians (like Gardner, Batenin, Yusupov, Popov, siblings Kornilov and Kuznetsov) in the eighteenth and beginning of the nineteenth century. The Imperial Factory, founded by order of Elizabeth in order to support the arts and commerce in Russia, for about 100 years produced works of ceramic for the Romanovs and the members of the Russian imperial court, but it later began to provide a wider market.
The exhibition aims dell'Hermitage thus exposing the public and tourists to stay in St. Petersburg part of the porcelain produced by these plants, with particular attention to those items that bear the coats of arms printed historical, and is divided into three main sections: the first is devoted to articles that have badges state, territory and family, the second section are in the works instead decorated with symbols of the highest honors of the Imperial Russia, and the third section includes the materials used to reproduce the heraldic symbols on porcelain, as graphic sketches, lithographs and books.

This exhibition allows visitors to understand the importance dall'araldica in Imperial Russia: The Russian territorial coats of arms were very popular during the reign of Peter I, when there was a close link between the crests and cities, while crests of the families go back even half of the twelfth century. These coats of arms began to be reproduced on porcelain, and the first items to be used in this way were of tobacco, which were played on the symbols of the families.
The primary function of the badges was to point out the territories and possessions which belonged to a particular family or person, and in fact were put on the gates of the residences, but also on cars and other personal items like clothes, books and services in china. The porcelain was in fact only the prerogative of the imperial house and the nobility, and was considered a luxury and elitist in a position to highlight the status of those who had. Visit the exhibition makes us therefore discover a piece of history and Russian culture.
