5 Tips for House Sharing 5 Tips for House Sharing by UNSO117

1. Find the right housemates

Finding the right people for your ?>house share.
or ?>flatshare
is critical. Don?t be tempted just to go for convenience ? i.e. a room is available in a shared house in the right place and at the right budget. Don?t forget that you have to live with these people, so take a little bit of time and effort to see whether you think they would drive you up the wall or not (or vice versa!)

2. Establish some ground rules

One of the things most likely to cause friction in a house share is members of the household behaving in a manner acceptable to other housemates. So why not establish some ground rules regarding loud music, visitors, replacing the toilet roll, etc., and if everybody plays by those rules then there is a much greater chance of harmony.

3. Work out a rota

There are some jobs that need doing, but nobody likes doing them. There are several ways of approaching this in a house share. You could decide to live in the dirt that you create until the first person dies of legionnaires disease, or you could decide to keep the place clean and tidy. They best way to achieve this is to make a rota of all of the chores that everybody sticks to right from the beginning, and at least there?s something to refer to if somebody is not pulling their weight!

4. Budget for household bills

Although you probably all pay your own rent by direct debit, or directly to the landlord, don?t forget other household bills. Our tip here is to agree a weekly or monthly budget that each ?>housemate
contributes an agreed amount to, so that funds are always in place when the bills arrive.

5. Treat your housemates how you would like to be treated

This is probably the simplest but more important tip of all. If you behave towards others in terms of your habits around the house as you would like them to behave towards you then they are more likely to reciprocate. After all, it?s all about living together and if you generally get on, most people will make a little effort.
