Hashirama took on the name of Hokage long before the Leaf Village was founded. Everyone in the world knew and feared the Senju clan.


The Uchiha clan, however, was like their shadow, both clans always seemed to be taking action at the same time. Mainly because it was only the Uchiha clan that could ever stand up shoulder-to-shoulder with the Senju.
If somebody employed the Senju, you could be sure that their opponent would employ the Uchiha... And I became quite well-known as the man who opposed Hashirama.

So you stole your brother's eyes to make yourself even more famous?

No, that's not it at all. My brother gave me his eyes willingly. (Madara punches his palm here)

But one day, the Senju proposed a ceasefire with the Uchiha. And the Uchiha were in agreement.
But I alone opposed this ceasefire. What of the hatred up until that point? Was my brother's sacrifice to be in vain?
I was sure that the Senju would one day exterminate our entire clan. But, as the leader, I was compelled to follow my clan's wishes.

And before long, we had entered into an alliance with the Fire Country.
The Fire Country and the Leaf Village. Every country emulated this system of one country, one village. And so, the wars ended. The world was at peace for a time.

But there was one rather controversial problem left.

The position of the First Hokage. The Fire Country and everyone in the village had chosen Hashirama.
As the dominion of the Uchiha clan was in peril, I chose to oppose Hashirama. But not even my own clan stood behind me. They instead turned on me, branding me as a greedy man who had stolen the eyes of his own brother...
Could any brother ever truly choose to hurt his own brother? I was merely working to protect the Uchiha! And so, I left the village.

I became an avenger then, and fought against the village. And I was defeated, felled and left for dead...or so they thought. Even Hashirama thought I had died there.
When Hashirama's brother became the Second Hokage, he formed an Uchiha police force, to protect against possible insurrection, and as a symbol of his trust in them. But truly it was just so that he could keep them under surveillance.
There were members of the Uchiha who discovered this deception and realised that I had been correct...but it was too late. The Uchiha had become nothing more than the Senju's lapdogs.

And then, an incident occurred which doomed the Uchiha. The attack of the Kyuubi, 16 years ago.
Danzou and two of the council were convinced that the Uchiha were the perpetrators. They insisted that it was an attempt at insurrection despite protests that the coming of the Kyuubi was merely a natural disaster.

And following that, the Uciha were segregated from the rest of the village, always under the watchful surveillance of the Anbu.
The Third Hokage expressed his objections to this segregation, but nobody listened to him.

And so, the Uchiha began to plan a coup d'etat, to claim the village for themselves, a reformed village of Uchiha alone.
And the one who stopped them...was none other than your own brother, Uchiha Itachi. And this is where his own personal hell began.
