Eye Injuries -What to Do and How to Deal With Them
Posted in: health in pejung's Blog

If you have an eye injury, it is needless to say that you need to be very careful and seek for medical care right away. In most cases, rubbing or touching your eyes could prove really harmful, since you might not know the exact cause or severity of the injury.

Eye injuries can occur everywhere we are; whether at home or outside, doing sports or just strolling enjoyably, something bad can always happen even without our fault. Most people who suffer some kind of eye trauma have either some foreign body in their eye or have experienced some injury caused by chemicals.

In both cases you should not attempt to remove the object by yourself, unless you know how to do it, or the object is no longer attached to any part of your eye ball. If it is not floating in the white part or if it's not hidden under the eyelid do not try to remove it; chances are that you will cause a bigger problem than the original one. Since it's about eyes, you should not try to be brave, be patient and ask for help right away. Even if you try to remove a foreign object, under no circumstances use some other object to do so. A hurt eye can cause sudden moves, so you don't need a second injury. Try to lift the eyelids and pour some cold water. If that hurts stop right away and wait for medical experts to show up.

Do not try to remove anything that seems to be somehow stuck in your pupil. If you can, place soft gauze over it and do not open it or move the eye. Finding a doctor fast is mandatory in this case. Splinter or glass objects that are impaled in the eye should also not be removed by you, because you might provoke an irreversible injury. Chemicals can also cause serious eye damage and injuries. Although you need to see a doctor right away, try to flush your eye with lots of water opening your eyes as much as possible.
