Green Energy

Jobs were promised by President Barrack Obama during the election campaign.

Three million new "Green Energy Jobsis one of the supposed benefits of the 1,000 page "Cap-and-Trade" Bill that is now under consideration in the US Senate.

What are the possibilities of that happening if that legislation is passed?

First we will examine the employment situation in the US, currently at a 9.5% unemployment rate, that is still rising. The unemployment rate is calculated based on people who are without jobs, who are available to work and who have actively sought work in the prior four weeks.

The Long-Term Unemployed are the 4,381,000 Americans out of work for over 27 weeks. if they are discouraged because companies are not hiring and stop looking foe work through the state employment agencies they won't be counted in the "Headline Unemployment Number."

A side-by-side comparison of a "Clean-Green Energy" project that was built to supply the electricity to power an oil refinery's operations will illustrate the employment possibilities of Wind energy installations.

The Valero Energy Corporation built thirty three windmills to power a refinery in Sunray, Texas that produces gasoline and diesel fuel resulting in a $1.5 million dollar utility bill, every month.

The "Wind Farm" cost $115 million to build and will break-even over 10 years at current electricity prices and if the Cap-and-Trade Bill passes will create Carbon Dioxide Emissions Credits that will offset the ones required by it's oil refinery operations.

All the Buses, Cars, Trucks and Trains in the country creates 30% of the Carbon Dioxide Emissions yearly. Refining crude oil into diesel fuel and gasoline is 5% of US emissions.

The cost of electricity generated in the ideal conditions of West Texas costs 4.5 cents per kilowatt hour (including the original purchase and construction cost and ongoing maintenance) compared to the 6 cents cost of "coal fired" electricity, that has to be transported from Wyoming by a constant stream of coal trains. (You can see why the various energy corporations are "for" and "against" the "Cap-and-Trade" Bill.)

As for employment the Valero refinery has 450 employees that maintain and operate it, the wind farm will require three workers to keep it spinning in the wind.
