Paris Hilton is going to jail, but does she really deserve to go?
'I feel that I was treated unfairly and that the sentence is both cruel and unwarranted' Paris remarked, 'I don't deserve this!' Footage of Paris leaving court after shock ruling! The 26-year-old heiress wept when the ruling was announced, and her mother shouted at the prosecutor: 'You're pathetic.'
Hilton has dumped her spokesperson Elliot Mintz, whom she holds responsible for the situation. Hilton said in court that Mintz had told her that she could still get behind the wheel for work-related purposes, and that her license had been suspended for a month.
The brakes are on the endless party that is Paris Hilton life. The hotel heiress' famous high life is over for a while, as the socialite was sentenced to 45-days in prison. At least she gets a break from the usual Paparazzi Nightmare. Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered Hilton, 26, to report to jail June 5. He also refused any arrangement - work release, furlough, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring - that would keep Hilton out of the county lockup.
If Hilton does not surrender as ordered, the sentence will be increased to 90 days. One of her attorneys, Howard Weitzman, said he would appeal. Hilton must go to jail on June 5.
Hilton, 26, was already on probation after admitting alcohol-related reckless driving and driving licence chiefs in California had suspended her license.
Then Hilton was stopped by highway patrol cops on January 15 this year and again by the LA County Sheriffs on February 27.
Checks discovered that she shouldn't have been on the road and her Black Mercedes was impounded immediately.
'I'm shocked, I'm surprised and really disheartened in the system that I've worked in for close to 40 years,' he said.
He said the sentence was 'uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous.'
'I think she's singled out because of who she is,' Weitzman said.
Paris Hilton worked as a farmer and maid on her TV show 'The Simple Life.' Now she's facing a real-life hardship in her latest role: jail inmate. Her cell would be spartan: 12-by-8 feet with a toilet, sink and a window 6 inches wide. Attire will be a choice of four colors of jumpsuits.
City attorney spokesman NICK VELASQUEZ said that the judge's ruling 'sends a clear message that in the city of Los Angeles, no one is above the law.'
Hilton pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a September 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test.
She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 per cent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.
