time. Fighting altitude,
falling ice, freezing winds
and snowstorms, they
challenged the world's tallest
mountain. Led by Norman
Dyhrenfurth, who also produced
and directed this film, the
expedition marked the first
time that Americans had
successfully reached the
summit. The route they
attempted includes the
'traditionel' Southeast route,
as well as the dangerous West
Ridge, a path which no one had
dared yet negotiate. Narrated
by Orson Welles, the film
features the first motion
pictures ever taken from the
mountain's summit. AMERICANS
ON EVEREST is an incredibly
vivid account of the journey
taken by twenty men who
learned that Everest might be
conquered, but it would never
be tamed.
