Suxamethonium acts as a
depolarizing neuromuscular
blocker. It imitates the
action of acetylcholine at the
neuromuscular junction, but it
is not degraded by
acetylcholinesterase but by
pseudocholinesterase, a plasma
cholinesterase. This
hydrolysis by
pseudocholinesterase is much
slower than that of
acetylcholine by
acetylcholinesterase
