Question:Iowa is both a key
primary and a major
corn-producing state, so
promoting subsidies for
ethanol derived from corn is
very good politics, and all of
you have promoted ethanol as a
solution to both energy
independence and the climate
crisis. However, several
studies, including an article
published recently by one of
our very own Stanford
engineering professors, show
that widespread use of
ethanol, including cellulosic
ethanol, would increase
pollution-related deaths in
America, and yet would only
slightly decrease carbon
emissions over gasoline. So,
my question for you is, 'Given
great alternatives like wind
and solar, is ethanol actually
good public policy, or is it
just good politics?'For more
