Please read this. This is another video of Dot doing what she loves most. As her previous appearance for Border Collie Rescue seemed to be popular we thought you might want the chance to see her again.Dot - aged 14 (close to 15) shows the grace, spirit and dedication of her breed in this slowed down movie of her herding in our 6 acre field. There is no explanatory commentory to this video and not a lot of the sheep - we have focused on Dot, showing her energy, power, experience, natural grace, beauty and herding ability - she is the Beauty of our Land and we love and respect her dearly. But for those who want some sort of explanation for her actions, she has been sent into the field to bring the sheep back to Nicki who is off camera. At first Dot runs around the outside of the field, keeping low so not to frighten the sheep and appoaches the bulk of the flock from behind, over the horizon. She gently moves them into a tight flock and down the field together, going back to gather in the odd groups of two or three that have been left behind and then brings them back up the field to Nicki, pausing at one point to scan around and see if she has missed any.She does all this without any further instruction or intervention other than being told at the start to 'Come Bye' (go Clockwise). The rest she works out for herself and gets the job done. The music we have chosen has poignant lyrics which - to us - amply reflect the demise of the ancient and traditional role of the sheepdog in farming in the UK today. Perhaps not quite what the writers intended, but nevertheless fitting for our application and a wonderful irish/celtic melody well worth listening to if you don't give a damn about sheepdogs. In the USA the Border Collie is generally better appreciated and respected for its natural talents than in the land of its birth - the UK.For this - amongst other things - America, we salute you.We hope you all enjoy this video, but particularly DieselBodine who has previously expressed his enjoyment of our scenic landscape - this ones for you Scott.
