2007.Twenty-four people are
dead after a suicide attacker
bombed a hotel in northwest
Pakistan today. Another 25 are
injured. The bomb went off in
the ground-floor restaurant of
a four-story hotel in
Peshawar, a city close to
Afghanistan. Police say they
found the legs of the
suspected attacker in the
rubble with a message taped to
one of them. That message said
spies for America would meet
such a fate. The search
continues for a 4-year-old
British girl who disappeared
eleven days ago from southern
Portugal. Police believe
Madeleine McCann was abducted
from her hotel room while her
parents had dinner at a nearby
restaurant. Detectives are
questioning three people, one
of whom lives about 100 yards
from the hotel where McCann
was apparently taken. That man
worked as a translator with
police investigating this
disappearance. An Al
Qaeda-linked group that claims
to have captured three U.S.
soldiers over the weekend in
Iraq claims a search for them
is pointless. The Islamic
State of Iraq said in an
Internet posting that the
soldiers are in their hands
and a search would just lead
to fatigue and unrest. They
also said if the U.S. desires
safety, do not look for them.
About 4 thousand troops have
been looking for the missing
soldiers. An army general says
the search will continue.The
number two official at the
U.S. Justice Department is
resigning. Deputy Attorney
General Paul McNulty says he's
leaving for personal reasons.
In his resignation letter, he
says a transition in his
career is long overdue with
the financial realities of
college-age children and two
decades of public service.
McNulty's resignation comes
amid controversy surrounding
the department's firing of
eight U.S. attorneys last
year. He was one of the key
figures in the shakeup. Thanks
