genocide.Turkey warned that
relations with its NATO ally
the United States would be
harmed if the Armenian
Genocide resolution was
approved. The White House had
pressed for the vote to be
opposed, arguing that it could
do irreparable damage to
bilateral ties and military
cooperation. The timing of the
vote could not have come at a
worse time, as pressure mounts
on the Turkish parliament to
authorise a large-scale
military incursion into
northern Iraq to fight Kurdish
rebels using the region as a
springboard to carry out
attacks in Turkey.Helen Long
